…Asks party to forget 2027 election
From Jude Owuamanam, Jos A member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Plateau state, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun, has disclosed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, vowed that he will ensure that the party did not survive because he lost the vice presidential tickets.
He said that because of the failure of the FCT minister to clinch the vice presidential ticket of the party on two different occasions, he’s doing everything to ensure that the party goes down the drain.
Speaking to our correspondent in his Jos country home, the former governor said that the FCT minister is using everything at his disposal, including using and inducing influential members of the PDP to achieve his aim.
He said that part of the ploy to kill PDP was the unconstitutional stay in office of the acting Chairman, Umar Damagum and the former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
He said that even though the two officers knew that their terms in office elapsed, they’re still clinging to the positions and being used to destabilise the party.
The former governor, who was also former minister and Nigeria’s ambassador to Kenya, said that he did not see the PDP surviving and partaking in the 2027 election because of the insincerity of the members.
He therefore asked the party to look beyond 2027 and probably prepare for 2031, because according to him from the look of things PDP does not have what it takes to dislodge President Bola Tinubu, whose reforms are beginning to have positive effect on the Nigerian economy..
“The tussle over the chairmanship and the secretaryship of the party is part of the ploy to ensure that PDP dies a natural death because, the occupants of the two positions knew that they’re not supposed to be in those offices.
“The party’s constitution is clear, the position of the chairman of the party belongs to o North Central after Iyorchia Ayu left and Anyanwu, after resigning to contest the governorship of Imo state does not have the legal and moral rights to come and say that he’s still the secretary of the party..
Tapgun asked the party to look beyond 2027 as he didn’t see the party reinventing itself to confront the ruling party in 2027.
He said, “People organising now should just forget it because I don’t see the party coming together as it was before to confront the present administration in the election. People took advantage of the liberal nature and the popularity of the party to destroy it. But I know that there’s Karma..
“Tinubu is there and his reforms, though painful are beginning to gain some grounds and PDP should perhaps look up to 2031 and organise themselves for proper election.”
