The Imo State House Of Assembly has urged the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma to direct the Ministry of Agriculture to source and procure improved and highly yield seedlings for farmers in the State in order to tackle food insecurity.
The House reached the resolution following the adoption of the motion moved by the member representing Obowo State Constituency, Kennedy Ibeh , who hinted on the importance of the motion.
Presenting the motion on the floor of the House, he said that food insecurity worsens the bite of inflation and economic recession , factors he noted contribute in making life more difficult for the citizens.
Ibeh added that sourcing for high yield seedlings can improve crop yield and harvest in the State, thereby reducing cost of living and improve living standard of people.
The Obowo, Lawmaker, maintained that there will be no other time better than now the farming season is at it planting period.
He enjoined his colleagues to lend their voices in supporting the motion for the betterment of the State in terms of food security.
The House, after much deliberation on the matter resolved to urge the Governor to direct the Ministry of Agriculture to urgently source and procure improved and high yield seedlings for distribution to farmers in the State for enhancing agricultural output.
