It was a day of joy as members of Divine Word International Church of God in Christ headquarters in Umuhum-Umuezem Oru West LGA ,Imo State converged at the Central Church in New Market Layout Egbu, Owerri to mark 20 Years anniversary of the church.
The glorious event took place at the on going Church building at New Market Layout Egbu on Sunday, March 9.
The Prelate of the church, Bishop,
Kenneth Obi while speaking with some Journalist said that the church has enjoyed good times and turbulent periods as well , mostly when the Central Church building was demolished in 2012 during Rochas Okorocha administration.
Bishop Obi , narrated that the demolition of the church without prior information from the Government came as a shock to them, he however , asserted that with God on their side that the church was able to overcome the trauma and still forged ahead in spreading the gospel of God.
Highlighting the achievements made by the church since its establishment in March,5, 2005.
The Prelate expressed fulfilment, maintaining that the gospel of Jesus Christ , through the church, has been able to pierce through hearts of those yet to accept the word and bring them to the light of salvation through the power of the gospel.
He maintained that since the establishment of the church in 2005 that it has recorded monumental achievements in the area of evangelization , winning souls to Christ through conversion of the heathens.
The prelate,informed that the church is not only focusing on spreading of the gospel but also engages in socio- economic growth of its members by providing them with business opportunities.
He further narrated that the church is growing in leaps and bounds with its numerical strength spreading across States as its presence has already been established in Benin, Edo State.
Bishop Obi ,expressed optimism that with the help of its international church in United States of America and friends that the church will complete the building project of its headquarters to the glory of God, irrespective of the present economic realities.
In his sermon, the Imo State Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria ,PFN, Bishop D.Jacob , who dwelled on the spiritual benefits of obeying God’s word maintained that the only way to live a fulfilled life is to abide by the tenets of God’s instructions without allowing the human nature take absolute control.
He hinted that God honours those who honour him through uplifting them to higher level while debasing those who run contrary
to his words.
Bishop Jacob, remarked that for the church to celebrate its 20 years of existence is a testimony that God’s hands is upon the church and that it will continue to be in existence to carry out the unfinished task bestowed upon it.
The anniversary was witnessed by the church faithful, friends and well wishers who congregated at the the premises in Owerri,capita of Imo state.
