…Besiege Accountant General’s Office
Local Government Workers in Imo State have thronged the office of the State Accountant General,AG lamenting delay in payment of their salaries which they said have caused them untold hardship.
The workers narrated that they always go through lots difficulties before receiving their monthly Salaries.
The workers who clustered at the Accountant General’s Office in demand of their salaries were dispersed by the Police who were allegedly acting on the instruction of some Government Officials.
Some of the workers who spoke on the conditions of anonymity called on the Governor to intervene in their situation.
They hinted that report shows that the Governor usually approves salaries of State, Local Government Workers and Pensioners on time but wondered why they had to face so much difficulties in getting Paid.
In the words of one of them who spoke under anonymity ;
” It takes hundreds of us two to three weeks and transportation of half of the salaries to move back and forth from AG’s office, the banks and offices before our salaries issues are resolved and paid.
“Why can’t these issues be resolved once and for all?.
As we speak, there are some staff who are yet to receive their November and December 2024 salaries despite that the Governor was said to have since released the funds for payment. Now that January is paid, about two thousand (2000) Local Government Workers are stranded running from Pillar to Post to get paid,”he moaned.
It was gathered that the workers who converged in their numbers at the Accountant Generals Office on Tuesday, were asked to write their names and leave the Premises.
They wondered why such treatment is being visited on them by those responsible for payment of their salaries despite commitments in their services.
The workers are asking what is responsible for the delay in payment of workers,they also query, if the office of the Accountant General and banks responsible for their prompt payment are relenting in their duties.
The workers seized the opportunity to call on the Governor of the State to investigate the the anomalies in the payment system with a view to resolving the same once and for all.
As at the time of going to Press, all efforts made to reach the Accountant General , through calls and message proved abortive as information had it that he was out of the State for an official engagement.
