Asaba Residents Raise Alarm Over Ajudua’s Alleged Terror

…76 YearOld woman dies From assault

..As Aggrieved Residents Accuse Police of compromise

The inhabitants of Asaba in Delta State, are said to have decried the continued wickedness, broad day light banditry, high-handedness and uncomplimentary conduct perpetuated on them by one Chief Fred  Ajudua, identified as the strong man of the area.

Ajudua, a well connected man with the state government as well as his wife’s past and present political position, has been fingered again for the death of a 76-year-old woman, Mrs Kate Nwaokobia (nee Ubaka).

Auguish filled the hearts of the residents of Asaba community over the assault meted on the septuagenarian woman by Ajudua and his thugs.

Information gathered by our correspondent say that Ajudua and his thugs were seen driving into the community, to the deceased house, and that upon Ajudua’s instructions, his thugs beat up the late Mrs. Kate Nwaokobia (nee Ubaka), which eventually led to her death.

Investigative report gathered by this newspaper  from the neighbours of the deceased suggested that she gave up on their way to the hospital shortly after Fred Ajudua and his assailants attacked the household in search of the family of one of the sons of the late woman, Mr. Martin Nwaokobia.

Mrs. Iwudi, a frequent caller at the house of the deceased further revealed that the deceased had lived with a live-in carer who ran off upon spotting the deadly Ajudua and his bodyguards and left the deceased to her fate. She further revealed that the deceased during her lifetime constantly agonised and cried over the  whereabout of her eldest son, Martin Nwaokobia, who was said to be her strongest support system.

She further informed newsmen that  one of the deceased’s sons is still lying in the hospital following an attempt on his life and that no one has seen the deceased eldest son and family after their house was demolished and plots of land forcefully taken away from them by  same Ajudua who she described as a monster.

Irked by these development, Mrs. Cynthia Okonkwo, a retired civil servant highlighted the ordeal that members of Asaba community are facing, stating that no one dares challenge the “almighty” Ajudua for fear of their lives.

According to her, “It is also futile to report Ajudua and his cronies to the police when nothing is ever done”.

She added that Chief Fred Ajudua had before now been petitioned by several individuals both  nationally and internationally, over several crimes, yet, he still walks a free man, believed to be untouchable by the authorities and that all of their petitions to the Police Headquarters and even Zone 5 have not yeilded any success as sometimes the complainants become suspect in trumped up charges and made to into hiding for fear of their lives.

“This is the  height of it all. People are dying, kidnapped, threatened, their lands taken away from them and their houses knocked down and the Police is keeping silent and Chief Fred Ajudua is walking freely, still targeting his next victim(s).

“Even if he comes and kills me now, I don’t care, but someone has to speak up against this injustice. No one is safe again, we cry to God to help us as our government is silent.

“I cry for my good sister and friend, Kate. If not because of the torture she faced in the hands of Ajudua and his thugs she would still be alive. As we speak, she is lying lifeless in the morgue while this devil called Fred Ajudua still roam the street and is being protected by the powers that be”, Mrs. Cynthia submitted.
