… To erect legislative chamber, traditional rulers’ secretariat.
As the newly elected Chairmen of the 27 LG councils of Imo state continue to celebrate their 100 days in office, the executive chairman of Ideato South Local Government Area has listed his achievements in the areas of security, agriculture, infrastructure, electricity among others.
Hon. Okwara Okechukwu Chibuike Kenneth ,the Executive Chairman of Ideato South Local Government Area made the disclosure recently as senior media personalities visited him at the Council headquarters at Dikenafai.
Okwara disclosed that the fight against insecurity which was started by the immediate past transition committee chairman before his assumption of office has continued to be sustained. He stated that the area is free, peaceful and secured with the combined efforts of all the indigenes of the area. According to him the youths have taken it upon themselves to ensure the area is secured.
On the issue of agriculture, the executive chairman pointed out that aside the local government own fish pond which was being revived,the council had reactivated Ideato South Palm plantation. According to him the policy on agriculture was to to replicate the state government policy on agriculture which is ended at food sufficiency.
The most loved Ideato South local government council boss disclosed that through the councillors 26 instead of the 13 rural roads were given facelift before the yuletide for easy mobility. He added,’ for quick delivery we hired six (6) catapillars that ensures the roads were done in record time’.
In his words,’ all council buildings have been reticulated with solar lights. When we came in all the council was in darkness but we were able to reticulate solar power all the buildings. I reticulated electricity in Dimagu community after 18 years of darkness. Even we are planning to secure 33 line Federal power line that will boost supply to the area.
He said the premises of council headquarters which is neatly cleared would be accommodating the planned building of council Secretariat, legislative chambers and traditional rulers Secretariat blocks in few months.
While commending the good relationship that exists between the executive and councillors that brought about smooth passage of the council 5.2 billion naira Budget of Progress added that the ban on sand excavation in the area would soon get legislative backing.
Inorder to boost the revenue of the area, the chairman disclosed the plan to recruit revenue collectors who would be trained by the state revenue collectors. According to him it had not been easy for state revenue officers to go into the communities to collect revenue but with the locales in charge it would not be difficult again.
Also speaking, the leader of Ideato South legislative Council, Rt. Hon.Okechukwu Anusionwu assured of harmony between the two arms promising that bye laws aimed at banning all forms of sand excavation and cultivation of crops on road which had scaled second reading would be enacted to aid the chairman in his duties.
