International Day for Education: Uche Samankwe Foundation donates educational materials to Owerri schools

The efforts to promote education in the State got a boost last week when a non-governmental organization (NGO), the Uche Samankwe Foundation, made a donation of educational materials to three schools in Owerri Zone. This was part of its program to mark the annual International Day for Education.

The schools which benefitted from their good heart include government and private schools. They are the Community Primary School, Uru/Umuanu, Isi OgwaMbaitoli LGA. Others are Christine Science Primary and Secondary School, World Bank, Owerri West LGA, and Semac International School, Ihiagwa, Owerri West LGA.

It would be recalled that the Community Primary School, had earlier last year received donation of complete set of school band from the Foundation. The Foundation also organized school debate for schools in Owerri Zone. The program manager of the group, Mr. ChijiokeUmunnakwe, stated that the Foundation ’’remains committed to uplifting communities through education, ensuring that no child is left out of school because of basic supplies.’’

Speaking further he highlighted that ‘’we recognize the economic challenges faced by many families and as part of our commitment to education, the Foundation is here to support students with essential writing materials.’’ Over 700 items in branded exercise books and pens were distributed to the schools.

When the team visited the Community School Uru, they were warmly received by the headmistress, Deaconess NnennaMadufor. Umunnakwe explained the purpose of their visit and thereafter the team members distributed the items to the pupils in their various classes.

Expressing her appreciation for the gesture, Madufor revealed that before the visit most pupils had to use same exercise books for all subjects due to lack of materials. She thanked God for sending the Foundation to their aids.

At the Christine Science School, the headteacher, Mrs. Angela Njoku, suggested that the distribution commence with the secondary school section. The program manager, addressed the students encouraging them to take their studies very serious notwithstanding the challenges that may be confronting them.

In response, Njoku remarked, ’’May God continue to bless Uche Samankwe Foundation’’ Extending their magnanimity to Semac International School, the school headmistress, Mrs. EzinneEziefula expressed her happiness and gratitude for the Foundation’s efforts.

She commended the initiative emphasizing the impact such support has on students who lack access to basic learning materials. In each of the schools, the pupils and students did not hide their excitements and spared moments to have photo shots with the Foundation team members.
