I’ll bring back lost glory of local governments – Obinatu

The Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, LGSC, Dr Nick Obinatu has appreciated the governor, Sen Hope Uzodinma for finding him worthy to serve in such capacity.

Dr Obinatu made the commendation on the occasion of his reception ceremony at Owerri Municipal Council after being sworn in last Friday at Government House, Owerri by the governor.

He revealed his plans to bring back the lost glory of the local government system on the state, adding that the governor is interested in making the local governments work because of the great vision he has for them.

The Chairman disclosed that his appointment is for the local government system in Imo, appointment for all senior citizens  and appointment to better the lot of the people, to correct the ills and to restore all the years caterpillars have eaten.

He promised not to disappoint the workers, assuring them that anything that is genuinely due to them will get to them because according to him, “The governor wants the best for you. I will make sure you are happy. I will do everything possible to do the needful”

Also speaking, a former NULGE Chairman, Comr Chief Ambrose Onuoha identified it as first in the history of LGSC for a retired worker to be chosen as the Chairman of the commission.

The Chairman, DAGS Forum, Imo State and DAGS, Oru East LGA, Dr Chidi E Okere described the celebrant as a man with credibility and Integrity and expressed the hope that his office will bring smiles on the faces of the workers.

The Director of Administration and General Services, DAGS, Owerri Municipal Council, Comr Mrs Florence Ngoka thanked the Governor, Sen Hope Uzodinma for the appointment of Dr Obinatu, a retired Treasurer of the council.

She identified Dr Obinatu as a good man who has been in the system and has the knowledge, wisdom and understanding, stressing that the governor has done the needful by putting the right person to the position.

The DAGS revealed that Dr Obinatu follows due process, adding that his appointment is the first step towards restoring the past glory of the commission, and appealed to, local government workers to give him their maximum support to take the local governments to the highest level.

A retired Director of Finance, Imo State Local Government Service Commission , LGSC, Barr Chief Law Uzowuru PhD noted that milestone has again been recorded in the Commission and Imo State in general because the right person, being a square peg has been chosen to be in a square hole.

He also identified the appointment a welcome development because according to him ‘When you appoint a retired footballer to be a coach, you have appointed a person who who knows how to drive the desired gool.

The retired director, a former two-time president of Safari Club and member, Owerri Sports Club, identified Dr Obinatu as an academic who knows the local government system very well and as a result the people of the state expect positive results from him to witness further growth in the system by restoring the lost glory of local governments.

He thanked the governor, Sen Hope Uzodinma for the appointment that will further strengthen the LGSC and appealed to the workers to give him their maximum support and cooperation.
