Ace Broadcaster and Human Rights Activist, Comrade Chinonso Uba popularly known as Nonsonkwa has dragged the Governor of Imo state, Sen Hope Uzodinma to the United Nations, European Union, Amnesty International and other organisations.
In a letter dated January 24, the Mbaitoli-born critic, alleged that there is a plot to assassinate him, members of his family including his lawyer by the Imo State government under Gov Uzodinma, his CSO-SP Adamu Shaba Gbovako, the Tiger Base commander, CSP Oladimeji Odeyiyiwa, his team of Inspectors.
The letter also mentioned the Imo APC State Chairman, Macdonald Ebere and Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba.
The letter was also submitted to the offices of the Prime Minister of Isreal, Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudaeu,Prime Minister of Britain, Keir Starmer, UAE Government, International Human Rights commission and American President, Donald Trump.
In the said letter , the vocal Activist, accused the Imo state government of constantly violating his fundamental human rights of freedom of speech by illegally arresting and detaining him using the instrument of state especially the Tiger Base of the Imo state police command.
Nonsonkwa narrated how Ebubeagu militants allegedly imported from Rivers state are responsible for the alleged killing of Imo Youths especially those from Orlu Zone and the abduction of the Activist to Abuja by the agents of the state government.
Nonsonkwa as well informed the UN and others of the terrible situation of human rights violations going on in Imo government. He also lamented the alleged clamp down on Vocal critics of the government including himself.
The Ace broadcaster made it clear that following his illegal arrest and detention last year, October 2024 by the Uzodinma led government, where he was detained for 54 days at the Federal Correctional Centre Owerri (Prison), his life ,that of his family and his lawyer is under threat.
The Mbaitoli-born Activist informed the UN and others that there is a clandestine plan to eliminate him,his family and his lawyer by the Imo State government ,as well as his agents especially by the Tiger Base under the direct command of SP Shaba, the governor’s Chief Security Officer.
Nonsonkwa urged the UN and others to take note and call the Government of Imo state to order and probably use the international powers to hold the governor, his agents responsible, if any harm comes his way, his family and his Lawyer.
It was gathered that the UN, EU, US,Amnesty International, UK Embassy etc , respectively endorsed the receipt of the letters.
It will be recalled that Comrade Uba ( aka Nonsonkwa) was arrested on July 27, 2023 on his way from work by three Hilux Van loaded with Tiger Base operatives. He was later bundled to Abuja,detained for 34 days without being charged to court.
Uzodinma’s government alleged then that Nonsonkwa bullied the governor through his Social Media handles and also alleged that he used Asari Dokubo’s Ebubeagu to kill Imo Youths .
Nonsonkwa was finally charged to court for cyberstalking and bullying the governor. And the case is still ongoing at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
“On the 20th day of October 2024, the die-hard Activist was again arrested by the Imo State government for treasonable felony, remanded by a lower court that lacked jurisdiction. He spent 54 days in the Prison without taking a plea.”
Uba is alleging that there is reliable information that the APC led government in Imo state is planning another evil against him; the Only Voice that criticises the government to silence him permanently.
Hence the alarm to international community to be aware and take note!
“Nonsonkwa is considered as a Saviour by many because of his unflinching advocacy for the poor and those who have no one to speak for them.
“Through his Activism,many people have been delivered from the hands of their oppressors,”it stated.
Nonsonkwa who is also the National President Nchekwa Ndi Ogbenye Foundation, State Director, National Youth Alliance, and National Co-ordinator, Heal Imo Movement, has also made it clear to continue positively to criticise the anti-people policies of any government,at state or national levels in order to promote human rights .
