…Allege Non-Accountability,land grabbing
The Umuakali-Elu Youth Association Naze in Owerri North LGA, Imo state has passed no confidence vote on its executive members led by one Mr.Prince Onyeneke and dissolved them over what it described as unholy conducts and fragrant disobedience of the constitution of the association.
The dissolution was carried out by general body of the youth wing after rising from its meeting held on Friday,February 9 ,where the decision was reached.
It was alleged that the executive body of the association headed by Onyeneke was involved in land grabbing and fraudulent sale of community lands placed under its custody without the general knowledge of the community.
It was also further reported that the land in question, was 25 plots which was said to be given to the community during the administration of then Gov Rochas Anayo Okorocha in compensation to those whose lands were taken by government.
It was learnt that the Youth Chairman and exco members allegedly conspired with some persons, entered into the land, began to parcellate and sell it to their friends and family members without proper documentation.
The Youth arm of the community was said to be angered and disappointed that its Chairman who ought to protect, upholds the image/interest of the association and the entire community, was grossly involved in the alleged illegal sale of the community land. It was made public when the Chairman of the Village,Mr Julius Ihebom had notified the community that he was not aware of the said sales.
They Youths described the action of its Chairman and exco as capable of bringing the image of the association into public disrepute hence their resolution to dissolve the executive members.
A document made available to our reporter showed that the resolution to dissolve the executive body was unanimously supported by the entire Umuakali -Elu village on February 10 in a general meeting in which Elders and Youths of the community were involved.
The document further revealed that apart from the alleged land fraud that the Chairman was also in the habit of misappropriating the treasury of the association.
It was said that he was unable to account for the development levies for the period of four years.
It was further gathered that the former Chairman Land Committee, Rev.Chris Ndukuba Onyeneke confessed before the Police that he sold four plots of land out of twenty five(25)plots in question.
“It is no longer a mere allegation that the Chairman,Prince Onyeneke and his Vice,Mr Charles Urewuji were involved in the illegal sales of communial lands as one of their conspirators,Rev.Ndukuba has confessed before the Police,”the document partly read.
One of the leaders of the community who wants to remain anonymous revealed that there is tension in the community because those whose lands were involved are not happy over the development as the size of each plot have been reduced inorder to make it up to the plots sold already.
He called on the traditional ruler and other stakeholders in the community to do everything possible to ensure that there will not be any breakdown of law and order.
