Following the continued detention of Fabian Ihekweme a former Commissioner to Governor Hope Uzodinma, former Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon.Kelechi Kennedy Nwagwu has demanded for his immediate release, saying he should be charged to court or be set free.
In a press statement , the former Speaker, stated that the continued incarceration of Ihekweme is a direct affront to his fundamental human rights and abuse of law by those behind his ordeal.
He pointed out that keeping Ihekweme in detention without charging him to court is not good for the image of State.
The former Speaker also observed that Imo state is now seen as lawless and abusers of fundamental human rights.
” It’s very unfortunate that this is happening in a democratic dispensation. Those in charge should respect Fabian’s rights as a human being and his constitutional rights as enshrined in 1999 constitution, as amended.
“We have kept quiet believing that reason will prevail, but it’s two months now, and nothing has happened. Those responsible for this gross constitutional abuse should release him without further delay or charge him to court.” he stated.
