Renowned Nollywood actor and lawyer Kenneth Okonkwo has recently weighed in on the ongoing debate about Igbo identity and inclusivity, particularly in relation to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s past political stances. During a conversation on Symfoni TV, Okonkwo highlighted the unwavering confidence of Igbo people in their cultural identity while emphasizing their inclusive nature.
“Ndigbo do not seek to force anyone to become like them; they are already thankful to God for their Igbo heritage,” Okonkwo explained, before turning his attention to the Ikwerre people’s actions. “It is the Ikwerre people who have rightfully embraced their Igbo identity, expressed a desire to serve as president, and shown their solidarity with the southeast as their brothers.”
The actor-lawyer focused on a key element of Igbo culture—its openness. “One thing you won’t find in an Igbo man’s DNA is exclusion. No way,” he asserted firmly.
Okonkwo attributed this inclusive nature to the traditional lifestyle of the Igbo people, pointing out, “An Igbo person is inherently a traveler and a trader, and these traits naturally require him to be welcoming to everyone, no matter where they come from.”
