Indigenes of thickly populated Alaenyi Community of Ogwa in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo state, have cried out to the office of Imo state First Lady, Mrs Chioma Uzodinma, the Imo state Police Commissioner, Mr. Aboki Danjuma as well as the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and Human Rights organizations, to act fast in the overall interest of the society.
The Alaenyi Ogwa people want the government and security operatives to ensure the prosecution of a 68-year-old man, Chief Goddy Olumba, a pensioner, former school teacher and indigene of Umunnachukwu kindred, Ndikpa, Umuegbe Alaenyi who allegedly, impregnated his grand daughter, Oluebube, a female child of his unmarried direct daughter, Miss Odinakachukwu Olumba.
According to concerned stakeholders of Umuegbe, while residing in Lagos state where he worked last before proceeding on retirement, Chief Goddy Olumba’s physically deformed daughter, Odinakachukwu gave birth to a daughter under a mysterious circumstance in her father’s house.
It was further, gathered that while still in Lagos, Olumba’s physically -challenged daughter who gave birth to Oluebube, grand daughter to Chief Olumba died, leaving her daughter( Oluebube) under the care of her father’s second wife as her own mother, that is Oluebube’s grand mother had died.
Shortly after the death of Miss Odinakachukwu, Chief Olumba’s physically -challenged daughter, her father, Goddy Olumba relocated to his home town, Umunnachukwu kindred of Ndikpa village Umuegbe village of Alaenyi, Ogwa Community of Mbaitoli local government area of Imo state with his grand daughter, Oluebube who is now grown up, as house help.
Aggrieved sources, most of who pleaded anonymity, following Chief Olumba’s incessant harassments, threats and intimidations, disclosed that while in the village with little Oluebube (grand daughter), Goddy Olumba started making overtures to the innocent and helpless girl who incidentally, complained to some elderly women in the neighborhood, all to no avail.
It was also, alleged that following more vigorous attempts to make her succumb to Chief Goddy Olumba’s demand for sex, the teenager, Oluebube, Goddy Olumba’s grand daughter, reported him to the village chair lady, Mrs Jemima Olumba who then, made some inquiries, involving the suspect, Chief Goddy Olumba, to ascertain the true position.
In a swift reaction, Goddy Olumba sometime in November, 2024, brought some police officers from the highly dreaded Tiger Base Unit of Imo State Police Command, Owerri, who came and arrested the village chair lady and her husband, Rev Victor Olumba.
Following investigative inquiries by the police, the Chair lady, Mrs Jemima and her husband, Victor Olumba were released and the complainant/suspect, Chief Goddy Olumba, detained at the Tiger Base for some days.
By implication, Chief Goddy Olumba was found culpable, a situation that warranted his detention by the police.
Incidentally, the grand daughter in question is pregnant and as a cover up, Chief Goddy Olumba who has since, extricated himself from police grip, claimed that one village boy was responsible for the pregnancy.
With threats to make life unbearable for the girl and the boy whom Goddy accused of being responsible for the pregnancy, and promises of better life, if only they would agree to live together as husband and wife, the two young lads have left the community and are now sojourning in pains somewhere in Ihiagwa, Owerri West local government area of Imo state.
The question bothering the minds of the people of Ndikpa, Umuegbe, Alaenyi Ogwa of Mbaitoli Local Government Area , ‘should these innocent and helpless youths be allowed to suffer such an ugly fate as a result of one man’s incestuous act in a civilised and God-fearing society like Imo State of Nigeria ?
As many people are aware, incest is a serious crime forbidden by all known human laws and religions.
Finally, should the police and Imo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, allow injustice of this nature to thrive ?
The law should l take its course, at least, as a deterrent to other erring members of this civilised state.
More so, this unfortunate and helpless pregnant teenager needs some measure of humanitarian care in the form of antenatal care and other basic necessities of life, to ensure her safety in both pregnancy and child birth.
