The pupil and teachers of Isieke 1 primary school, Awo-Omamma in Oru-East L.G.A. Imo state were filled with gratitude and happiness as an illustrious son ,based in United Kingdom,UK ,Barr Victor Amadi-Igwe, a son of Isieke community handed over a spacious hall he recently single handedly erected for the school.
The donor, Barrister Amadi-Igwe said he did it on behalf of his wife, Gladys, and the greater Igwe family.
He said he was an old boy of the school and felt dismayed when he last visited the school and saw the children squatting in a pool of water due to the leaking roof of the dilapidated building.
According to him, he was filled with sorrow that he , there and then, made up his mind to put up a new building from the scratch to shade the pupils.
He dedicated the solid structure to the memory of his dear departed parents, late Chief Pius and Ezinne Justina Igwe and named it Barrister Victor Igwe building.
Barrister Amadi-Igwe did not stop there; he announced that he was going to provide Toilet facilities and running water to the school in the near future.
In her speech, the Head mistress of the school, Mrs. Florence Ike, thanked Barrister Amadi-Igwe for his kind and enduring gesture. She said that due to the sordid state of the school, Common Entrance and other exams were moved out of the school in the past. But now, credit to Barrister Amadi-Igwe, the local kids can now sit for their exams in the school. She prayed to God Almighty to replenish his coffers over and over again. She was of the belief that due to this novel move, other old boys and girls of the school would consider helping out in other quarters, saying the school still lacked in other areas. She gave an example with the Library which she revealed has since lost its past glory, even as she lamented that the books stocked in it were all lost. The classrooms,she also disclosed are not floored and this she moaned causes harm to the children.
The Head Mistress equally explained that the school needs desks and seats,
In his own speech, the secretary of education, Oru East LGA, Imo state , Comrade Madu Aloysius, praised and thanked Barrister Amadi-Igwe for not waiting for the government to see to the realisation of this monumental project.
He promised to recommend him to the authorities in Owerri. In a chat with our Special Project man, Chief Cajetan Nnanemere, Barrister Victor Ifeanyi Amadi-Igwe, reiterated that he got his inspiration from the Bible.
He followed it with a quotation from the book of St. Matthew where Jesus harped on welcoming little children. He said education is paramount in life and if a child can’t get it, he or she can at least go for a skill acquisition to help him or her go through life, to be sure of a future source of income, which he said is crucial.
Reacting also,Barr Amadi-Igwe revealed that he was going to provide solar electricity from Awo-Omamma/Orlu junction on the Owerri-Onitsha expressway down to Amiri junction, a distance of about a kilometer.
