Excerpts:

What do you consider your achievements so far, as the Executive Chairman of Owerri Municipal Council?

When I came in, I made sure that the attitude of the workers of the council, improved greatly. They have changed their attitude to work. They come to work on time and leave at the appropriate closing time. Their productivity have increased tremendously.

When I came in, I also noticed that the Local Government Council Area; the streets and public places, were untidy.

There were refuse dumps here and there, which was not good for a Local Government Council that host the State Government Office and Administration. So I mobilized labourers and refuse collectors to clean the streets and evacuate refuse regularly and consistently. The Council Area environment, is much better now. Owerri Municipal now has a new look.

I also paid attention to the Chapel at the Secretariat. With the assistance of funds from His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha, the Chapel has been completed, equipped and it is how fully functioning, for our staff and visitors to worship God. Imo State is truly in the Hands of God!

With the assistance and funds from the Governor, we have also embarked on Operation-No-Potholes! In the project, we have been filling the potholes on the streets and roads of Council Area. Motorists and commuters, are having smooth drive and movement, especially, at this Xmas and New Year festive season.

In addition, Opara Anozie Street, that has been abandoned since the government of Dee Sam Mbakwe, is now receiving attention. We have began the re-construction of the road. At the moment, it is being asphalted. It will be completed soon. It is a 2-kilometre Road. With the funds from His Excellency, we shall complete that road and make it available to citizens to use conveniently after over 25 years! The citizens are very pleased about the work going on at that road.

I am also empowering my people; the people of Owerri Municipal Area Council. I have been giving them money, for their personal needs and for their medium and small scale businesses. As you can notice, today is December 25th, Xmas Day.

Since 7am this morning, I have been receiving my people. I have been distributing rice and cash to them for their Xmas. In fact, I have been doing this since December 23rd. They have been coming to see me in their numbers as their leader and Executive Chairman. Everybody that comes, will take home gifts and cash to their families to celebrate the Xmas and New Year festivities. I care about their needs. I care about their welfare. That’s why I am their Chairman. I will continue to do more. Some of these gifts and cash I give, I do so from my own modest salary.

To make my job easier and more convenient, I have employed additional 22 workers. I pay them regularly and as at when due, to take care of themselves and families.

What can you say about the achievements of His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha?

His Excellency, has done very well. His achievements, especially, the Free Education Policy, has been remarkable. Every child of school age, now go to school at all levels free of charge!

He has relieved parents especially, the poor, the burden of school fees. Imo people are grateful to him for that policy and programme.

His Excellency, has also done very well in infrastructures. He has revolutionized infrastructures in Imo State, His urban renewal and roads expansion programme across the state, is award-winning.

Imo people, have not see such massive infrastructural and beautification projects going on simultaneously in Imo State, since the state was created in 1976! That has attracted more visitors and investors to Imo State.

What is your message to the people of Owerri Municipal on this Special Xmas Day?

I wish my people a Merry Xmas and a Prosperous New Year ahead. May the Birth of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, bring them abundant blessings, peace and prosperity, in the New Year and years ahead. Amen.

I urge all citizens of Owerri Municipal, who have not collected their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to do that now, so that they can vote and vote for credible candidates of their choice on Election Day.
