Tinubu Tells G20 Leaders How His Administration Has Tackled Hunger, Poverty In Nigeria

According to Vanguard News, President Bola Tinubu has outlined how his administration is addressing hunger and poverty in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, noting that Brazil’s efforts align with Nigeria’s current economic policies.

While speaking at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Tinubu remarked, “Brazil’s prioritization of the Fight Against Hunger and Poverty aligns with Nigeria’s present economic agenda.”

He emphasized his administration’s dedication to these issues, referencing Nigeria’s 8-Point Agenda launched in 2023.

“Priority 3 focuses on enhancing agriculture to achieve food security by developing commodity value chains and providing infrastructure support. Priority 6 emphasizes education, health, and social investment as vital pillars of development,” Tinubu explained.

The president commended Brazil’s leadership in initiating the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, calling it “a bold and visionary move” to address global challenges.

He added, “This initiative offers a comprehensive approach not just to meeting immediate needs, but also to tackling the root causes of hunger and poverty.”

Tinubu also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to joining the Global Alliance, describing it as “a significant step forward” in the country’s fight to eliminate poverty.

He highlighted that this commitment aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 1 on eradicating poverty and SDG 2 on achieving zero hunger.

“Nigeria’s participation in the Alliance aligns closely with these goals, which are central to our development strategy,” Tinubu said.

By partnering with international organizations, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s intention to “leverage best practices, innovative solutions, and financial support” to effectively combat hunger and poverty.

President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to Brazil for inviting Nigeria to the G20 as a guest nation, acknowledging the historical significance of the summit in Rio de Janeiro.

He concluded, “Nigeria reaffirms its commitment to working with G20 member and guest countries, international organizations, and civil society in the fight against hunger and poverty.”

The statement also noted, “Brazil’s prioritization of the Fight Against Hunger and Poverty aligns with Nigeria’s current economic policies.”

“When I assumed office in 2023, I introduced an 8-Point Agenda. Priority 3 aims to enhance agriculture to achieve food security through developing commodity value chains and providing infrastructure support.”

“Priority 6 focuses on education, health, and social investment as essential pillars of development.”

“Let me begin by expressing gratitude to the Government of Brazil for inviting Nigeria as a guest country to the G20 under Brazil’s Presidency.”
