Following the current political situation in Nigeria said to have been orchestrated by bad leadership, an educationist and public commentator, Chidi Ughala has suggested that a political test to public office seekers to put an end to bad governance.
Speaking with our reporter in Owerri recently, Ughala who retired as a principal director in Imo State civil service said that it is disheartening seeing wrong people occupying public positions in the name of offering leadership services when the said people don’t know the rudiments of leadership.
He pointed out that the process of electing people into leadership positions has been infiltrated by the so called politicians who determine who becomes the electoral chief saying that the method has led to the mismanagement of the electoral Commission-INEC.
Ughala maintained that leadership is not a tea party or free for all comers who don’t know the nitty gritty of political leadership.
He noted that the best way of getting it right is to change the method of electing leaders.
He came out with the idea of testing who ever wants to participate in political leadership on three major capacities; the cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects.
The educationist insisted that these three elements should be the basic requirements for anybody who wants to participate in leadership.
“Anybody who wants to assume political leadership must possess these three aspects I mentioned.
The cognitive aspect deals with the ability to identify a particular problem and look for solutions.
The affective aspect have to do with affection; being emotional to people’s feelings while the psychomotor aspects deals with the ability to get things practically done, to achieve the best by bringing in experts for developmental purposes.” he said.
He suggested that there will be an established department to be called National Political Test in all the Higher Institutions across the country that would be managed by those he described as seasoned intellectuals to test every public seeker on the three aspects.
Ughala further said that whoever passed the test will be eligible to participate in any political contest within the political parties.
