Mayors Of Change: Governor Otti’s Innovative Approach To Local Governance

Governor Alex Chioma Otti OFR, recently hosted the out-gone Mayors and current Mayors and their Deputies in a dinner, where he announced plans to integrate high-performing former Mayors into his government. This move underscores Governor Otti’s commitment to merit-based leadership and continuity in grassroots development. At the event, he praised the achievements of the immediate past Mayors, highlighting their excellent performance in their various Local Government Areas.

Since assuming office, Governor Otti has demonstrated his dedication to rebuilding and repositioning Abia State. His administration has initiated various projects and policies aimed at promoting economic growth, improving infrastructure, and enhancing the overall well-being of the citizens.

For instance, Governor Otti launched a digital tax system, which simplifies tax compliance for businesses and eliminates fraud in revenue collection. Additionally, and recently too, the Governor declared free and compulsory education in Abia, making it an offense for parents or guardians who fail to enroll their children.

The Governor’s administration has focused on economic and social transformation, public service reforms, and internal security. He initiated the rehabilitation of key roads in Aba and Umuahia, addressing waste management and drainage issues. Furthermore, Governor Otti declared a state of emergency in the education sector, retrofitting and equipping several schools across the state. The teachers are also trained and retrained to offer quality education in Abia public schools. The governor also upgraded healthcare facilities, acknowledging the deplorable state of some hospitals and promising necessary improvements.

Governor Otti’s commitment to transparency and accountability is evident in his administration’s actions. By integrating former Mayors into his government, Otti demonstrates dedication to effective governance and continuity. His leadership style and commitment to grassroots development are likely to have a lasting impact on Abia State.

The dinner event featured emotional speeches from former Mayors, including Dr. David Ogba, Chief Eric Egwuibe, Ph.D, Mr. Uche Nwogu, and Anthony Ejike Nnochiri, expressing gratitude to Governor Otti. They urged the newly elected Mayors to build on established foundations, advance democracy, and lead with humility.
