History was made,weekend at Ehime Mbano Local Government Headquarters, as the duly elected chairman, Hon. C Uche Nwodu, held the first stakeholders meeting since his assumption of office.
The Chairman who described the meeting as, “gathering of stakeholders to meet minds and assess the various needs of the communities”, thrilled the audience by painstakingly marshalling out plans and explaining major areas of focus of his administration.
The meticulous enumeration of these priority areas which include health, agriculture, security and other areas of urgent needs, attracted spontaneous unanimous vote of confidence on the Executive Governor, His Excellency Sen. Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Chief Uche Nwodu and the Legislative Council, by Ehime Mbano stakeholders which cut across party lines.
The stakeholders who were feasibly elated, noted that though the chairman welcome the peculiar needs of their communities during the needs assessment, but also observed that the itemized focused areas listed by the chairman coincided with the deep yearnings and expectations of the people for immediate government intervention.
The chairman assured the people that negotiation is in full swing to provide free health insurance scheme for the vulnerable groups in the communities and to tap into the rich soil within the local government areas to enhance agricultural production for food security, encourage employment, particularly in the area of agriculture, and to work with relevant stakeholders for the security of lives and properties.
He however wondered how these dividends of democracy will trickle down if the people of Ehime Mbano do not join hands to end insecurity in the local government.
He iterated the need for the President-Generals, Traditional Rulers, Clergy men and all lovers of the local government to work towards ending crime and criminality in their various communities.
He hailed the administration of His Excellency, Distinguished Gov. Hope Uzodimma for giving the local governments in Imo State, particularly in Ehime Mbano, all the necessary enablement to function and to ensure that governance is brought very close to the grassroots.
While adding his voice on the discussion, the Okigwe Zonal Chairman of APC Chief Hon. Kenneth Nwachukwu, praised the initiatives of the local government chairman and expressed optimism of better things to come for the local government.
Also, the APC Chairman of Ehime Mbano Local Government, Hon. Austin Iwuoha, who spoke eloquently on the need for collective responsibility, called on all the people of Ehime Mbano to work in synergy with elected government to avoid working against the common interest of the people.
He expressed strong hope that the newly elected government in Ehime Mbano led by Chief Uche Nwodu, has all it takes to move the local government to the next positive level.
He stated clearly that the period of election has gone, now is time for governance, noting that peace is required to achieve the lofty ideas of the Executive Chairman.
The Executive Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs Chioma Nwosu, during her comments wondered why Ehime Mbano degenerated so low such that it now merit mentioned among areas with security challenges. According to her, the local government was once peaceful and homely.
She prayed for peace and promised that the newly elected government will work together with the stakeholders and the entire people of the local government to entrench peace and tranquility.
Mrs Amarachi Owuamalam, a former counselor, who was also at the event, hailed the programs as enumerated by the executive chairman and called for collaboration among the various shades of stakeholders and the newly elected government.
In his comment, the Leader of the Council, Hon. Ifeanyi Onyekachi, assured of the readiness of the legislative council to give legal backing to the policies and programmes of the government that will move the people of Ehime Mbano forward. He expressed confidence in the wisdom and ability of the chairman to deliver owing to his track record of performance. He noted that with the quality of the people that were elected as counselors of various wards of the local government, success is sure, Gods willing.
The climax of the event was the passing of vote of confidence on the Governor, the Local Government Chairman and the legislative council through a motion moved by Chief Alex Nzekwe, supported by Mr Charles.
