…As Uchegbu keeps promise.
Hon Kyrian Uchegbu, the Federal Commissioner representing Imo State in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC,Board, has led his team to install streetlights in the six autonomous communities in Oru Clan of Oguta LGA in the state.
The communities include, Mgbele, Nkwesi, Nnebukwu, Orsu obodo, K-Beach and Eziorsu Autonomous Communities.
In fulfilment of his promise, Hon Uchegbu also assured the benefitting communities that all the nooks and crannies of the communities must be lit up on or before the end of December 2024.
The federal commissioner noted that though the programme had started before his appointment, as it could be seen in some areas, he started from Izombe Clan to Oguta Ameshi and that it has reached six autonomous communities in Oru clan.
He said the project would consciously pass through Awa zone, Agwa block, Egwe Egbuoma and Osemoto/Enuigbo axis.
He went further to emphasize that the project must get to every community in Imo State without exception.
“We can’t play politics or joke with this project soundly initiated by Mr President Distinguished Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his commitment towards the development of Niger Delta region, by enhancing her internal security, as well as adding vigor to her rural and urban commercial life mostly at night; illuminating and adding beauty to her general social environs”.
Hon Uchegbu called on the benefiting communities to device special ways to ensure that the lighting facilities were adequately protected from vandalism and theft as the government would hold the community leaders responsible in cases of theft or vandalisation of any of the lightning facilities.
In his speech, HRH, Eze Odika, the Eze Igwe 27 of Mgbele Ancient Kingdom who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers of Oru clan poured encomiums on Hon Uchegbu, describing him as what a political leader and representative should be in every democratic clime. He urged other leaders to emulate his foot steps.
The traditional ruler assured the commission and the government of Imo State that the facilities would be given maximum protection as Oru clan would see theft or vandalisation of public property as a sacrilegious act.
He said offenders will be handed over to security agencies.
Similarly, Dr Jones Uzoka of Orsu Obodo commended Hon Uchegbu for his for commitment in making Oguta LGA proud, noting that he has ceaselessly attracted meaningful projects to Oguta LGA and Imo State. He implored him never to be distracted in his mission, while praying the Almighty God to continue to protect and guide him in his official activities. The contractor handling the project, Ichie Sunday Muofunanya assured the people of the area of quality job and timely delivery.
The highlight of the event was the final handover of project witnessed by who is who in Oru Clan including Hon Princess Chinwe Njoku, Hon Hipolite Uzoka, an Oguta-born Hong Kong-based business mogul, Jefferson Amakiri, among others.
