The 2024 Physicians’ Week of the Nigerian Medical Association Imo State with the theme ” Ensuring Universal Applicability in Remuneration : A Panacea to Talent Retention in the HealthCare Industry has taken place at the NMA Secretariat, along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri
In his address, the Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association Imo State, Dr Bartholomew Echeta appreciated the founding fathers of their noble association worldwide for their thoughtfulness in setting a week aside for the celebration of these doctors who dedicated their lives, knowledge and talent to the provision of health care for all and sundry.
Dr Echeta stated that the week is set aside for them to come together, eat drink, dance, make merry, interact with their members and colleagues as well as rededicate themselves to the service of humanity, as he thanked the physicians” week committee ably led by Dr Onyi Aria and to all in one way or the other that made the day a huge success.
The Nigerian Medical Association Chairman emphasised that doctors should keep up the good work they are called to do and equally, appreciated the keynote/guest speakers for doing justice to the topics stressing, that they were wonderful and cerebral in the delivery of the theme and sub- theme.
The NMA boss however reiterated, that in an importation- driven economy as ours, it is only imperative that remuneration should be universally applicable in order to retain the workforce .as he calls on the state governor Senator Hope Uzodinma who is the chief security officer of the state to use his good office to ensure an improved and secured environment for the doctors in Imo State, wherever they work.
Speaking also, the chairman Imo NMA 2024 physicians’ week organizing committee Dr Onyinyechukwu Arua welcomed all to the event adding, that the week has been a traditional week, when they take time off work and come together to meet themselves, relate with one another, do some activities together as well as give their tine and resources out to the general public.
In his contribution the Secretary NMA Dr Nnaemeka Ibekwe noted, that this year’s physicians’ week equally, provides a time out of their busy schedule to reflect on their lives, health, well being as enshrined in their oath as he emphasised that ensuring universal applicability in remuneration of healthcare workers in this nation cannot be over emphasised.
He thereby, enjoined members of the association to keep on supporting the administration of the present executives adding, that they in NMA are all their brothers’ keeper as the association is there reaching out to members who are elderly, sick and those who could not not attend their functions anymore as he solicits for all to join hands together in order to move the association forward to a greater height.
