*Advocacy for Equity and Good Governance*, a socio- economic group whose mandate includes but not limited to supporting good governance on equity, fairness and justice has thrown her support towards the motion to split the largest federal Constituency ; Njaba / Isu / Nkwerre / Nwangele Federal Constituency into two federal Constituencies.
The group described the move as a welcome development to address a long over due injustice meted on the people of the region.
Speaking to our correspondent , the spokesperson of the group, Hon. Chikezie Nwadike described the motion moved by the House of Representative member representing Njaba / Isu / Nkwerre/ Nwangele Federal Constituency, Hon. Barr. Harrison Nwadike as a signature project for the federal Constituency.
According to him , the merging of the four full fledged LGAs : Njaba , Isu, Nkwerre and Nwangele LGAs to one federal Constituency,no matter the disguise is a democratic injustice to the region and Imo State.
He maintained that such undoubtedly reduced the opportunity of quality representation of the people at the national level especially at the green chamber thus flagrantly denying them their fundamental freedom of expression and involvement in the affairs of the country, Nigeria.
Speaking further on the negative consequences of the ugly development, he informed that it also enabled very low development and government attention to the area because the tour full fledged LGAs will only be serviced by one Constituency allocation which is grossly inadequate and that will invariably make no noticeable positive impact to the region unlike other federal Constituencies that have only two LGAs.
“You cannot compare the impact. Look at the booming population of the area , the allocation will actually make no visible impact in addressing the developmental challenges of the area. This needs to be addressed.”
“We want to commend the efforts of the present House of Rep member pushing for this motion and we are glad to hear that the motion has passed the second reading as we wish it to be given accelerated hearing”.
“To the leadership of the green chamber ably led by Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen (PhD) and the members of the National Assembly, we appeal to you to give this motion all the necessary facilitated attention because when passed into law, this will add to your list of landmark achievements in ensuring that good governance is stretched to all corners of the country as you promised “, he added .
The Spokesperson also called on all relevant stakeholders, members of the National Assembly from the region and beyond and all lovers of good governance to put efforts together irrespective of Party affiliation or ethnic inclination in ensuring that this motion is realized on good course.
Hon. Chikezie Nwadike who hails from Umuezeanoruo Eziama Autonomous Community, Eziama Obaire Ancient kingdom in Nkwerre LGA maintained that such development when it comes to fruition will not only encourage development of the area, it will also reduce the gap between the people and the government.
“The Government is for the people and by the people. Any action aimed at reducing the gap between the government and the people should be encouraged because that is what democracy is all about, not otherwise “.
“Creating another Federal Constituency from the mentioned Federal Constituency is a well thought out idea that is long overdue. Looking at the demographic endowment, the LGAs are already paired for good : Nkwerre LGA and Nwangele LGA, Njaba LGA and Isu LGA”, he added.
Hon. Chikezie Nwadike in the same vein called on the President and commander in Chief of the armed Force, President Armed Bola Tinubu to grant the required attention to the motion when it comes to his table as Bill so that it will be signed into law.
This according to him will go along way is creating harmonious relationship with the people while called on him to react more towards ameliorating the heightened economic hardship in the country which is biting deeper on the populace every seconds of the day .
