President Bola Tinubu recently re-assigned some of his ministers to new ministries and appointed new ones.
The Nigerian president equally scrapped some ministries and created new ones. In all, the Tinubu administration hopes the rejigging of his barely one and a half year administration will help better the palpable economic situation he plunged the country into especially, with his hasty removal of petrol subsidy at the point of inauguration on May 29, 2023.
To say that Nigerians have been plunged into unsolicited hardship since Tinubu made the announcement that ended the fuel subsidy regime in the country, is a kind of understatement. Reality is, many Nigerians are presently crawling on their belly as prices of goods and services, particularly, food items have hit high heavens.
There is no pretending about this. Tinubu and aides may try to paint a different picture but the fact is glaring: Nigerians are apparently worse-off than they were under the last administration of Muhammadu Buhari widely considered as lackluster.
In the meantime, it is difficult for the suffering masses of the country to accept repeated pleas by Tinubu and his aides that he ( the president) ‘feels their pains.” Or that he ” hears them loud and clear,” because there is virtually no tangible signs that the situation is improving as prices of goods and services keep climbing up on daily basis.
Let Mr President act with a sense of urgency by reversing the outrageous cost of fuel, as well as tackle the free fall of the naira against the dollar and many other foreign currencies. Who would have ever imagined in this country that a dollar would ever exchange for nearly N1800, or one British pound for over N2000? Unfortunately that is reality at moment.
Again, we reiterate that there is nothing wrong if Tinubu returns fuel subsidy as many Nigerians and groups have already called on the president to do so. Such will help save the country whatever remains of a battered economy.
We urge President Tinubu
