SENATE URGES FG TO IMMORTALIZE IWUANYANWU

The Nigeria Senate has called on the Federal Government to immortalize the late Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Worldwide President General, Chief  Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Ahaejiagamba Ndi Igbo, a patriot and statesman who died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness.

This followed a motion moved under matter of urgent public importance by Distinguished Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi, representing Imo East Senatorial District, Imo State.

Distinguished Senator Onyewuchi in his motion noted that the late Ahaejiagamba deserves national honour for his contribution towards the socio-economic and political development of Nigeria

According to him, Chief Iwuanyanwu was a renowned businessman, philanthropist, political leader, and media mogul whose contributions to Nigeria’s economic, political, and social spheres were nothing short of monumental.

Senator Onyewuchi further said that late Iwuanyanwu’s leadership of the Apex Socio-cultural Organization of Igbos in Nigeria and in the Diaspora (Ohanaeze) marked a period of renewed focus on the cultural, political and economic aspirations of the Igbo nation .

The Owerri Zone Senator urged the Senate to observe a minute silence in honour of Chief Iwuanyanwu and further urged the Federal Government to name a national facility  in his honour.

In his contribution, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, recalled his long standing relationship with Chief Iwuanyanwu, describing him as a detribalized Nigerian patriot.

Senator Victor Umeh also described him as a gift to Igboland.

Distinguished Senator Abdul Ningi equally lauded Senator Onyewuchi for bringing up the motion, pointing out that the deceased was a renowned nationalist.

The President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill   Akpabio, in his own speech described Chief Iwuanyanwu as a great Nigerian, nationalist and pan African leader.
