The purported local government elections in Nkwerre LGA and of course all over Imo state today, September 21, 2024, have been nothing but a show of shame, an organized fraud, and an unprecedented rape of democracy castrated by ISEC and it’s APC allies .
As of 4 pm on a supposed election day, Nkwerre people and the entire Imolites witnessed with grief the absence of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials at virtually all the polling units across the entire State, even as electoral officers were not sighted anywhere near 95% percent of voting centers.
Frustrated and disappointed, voters who had waited so long to cast their ballots to no avail retired to their respective homes.
In a rather shocking development, the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) instead delivered the sensitive electoral materials to APC leaders at the LGA before our very own and this wickedness was legitimized by our security forces who stood and monitored this act as against any opposing force.
We also saw APC leaders with impunity recruiting their members at the LGA ISIEC office and thereafter handing the electoral materials to them for onward execution of their rigging agenda as I see the ISIEC officials literally taking orders from the APC leaders.
It is on record that up till today, the election day, ISIEC did not release the list of candidates for the election, nor did the commission publish the voter register at the polling units as the law requires. There was no communication or meeting whatsoever with political parties, the candidates, and other stakeholders regarding the election. That is the height of their criminality and abuse of the electoral guidelines.
The commission never publicly advertised applications for its ad-hoc role as expected and that shows that their actions on the election day was indeed an act to an already written script.
However, after all the shenanigans and wickedness that was exhibited on the election day and the following announcement that the All Progressive Grand Alliance ( APGA) came second in an election that was a land slide victory for APGA and it’s Candidates was not acceptable by us and my party.
To this end, we are consulting with our lawyers and will communicate our next line of action to the public.
