A renowned legal practitioner Barr Oluchukwu Nnabugwu has received an award of Excellence by the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in recognition of his contribution in promoting the course of fighting for the people of the state.
The award was conferred on Barr Nnabugwu on the occasion of Human Rights and Stakeholders Summit 2024 For peace in Imo State in commemoration of the International Human Rights Day held at Rockview Hotel, Owerri.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after receiving the awardee, Barr Nnabugwu who s also the Founder, Green Oluchukwu Ijele Nnabugwu (GOIN) and the Chairman Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) Southern Nigeria commended the association for the honour done him adding that, it would spur him for more actions.
The GOIN founder equally, appreciated the United Nations for creating a day to celebrate the commemoration of International Human Rights Day adding, that the issue of Human Right Abuses concerns everyone not only the security personnel alone.
Still speaking, he reiterated that the association recognised his numerous effort and decided to honour him with the award as he used his legal practice to ensure that he make his voice heard on matters that assist people who are victims of human rights abuses in the society.
The YOWIVAc chairman who described the occasion as a welcome development, a step in the right direction, a special day where various organizations. under the human rights as well as the stakeholders come together to discuss on the way forward in curtailing the abuse of human rights as he commended the security agencies such as the Department of State Services, Civil Defence Corps,, the correctional services among other security agencies that were present at the occasion.
He however disclosed, that he has used his GOIN foundation, to sponsor many abuse of human rights stressing, that it is not women only, that are abused the men and even the children likewise are equally abused.
The legal luminary emphasized, that most parents do violate the rights of their children as well the wards under their care, while in the universities and other higher institution some male lecturers equally, violates the rights of the female students while the community leaders are not left out as they as well, violate the rights of the people.
He thereby, emphasized on the need to ensure that human rights are not violated but rather protected hence, the urgent need for those concern to create awareness on the rights of people as well as the ways to remedy the situation in the society.
