2027  Governorship: Okigwe And Owerri Zones  Must Agree, Avoid 2011 Mistake  In Choice Of Next Imo  Governor.

…Writes: Orlu still eyeing to succeed Uzodinma

As political undercurrents for the 2027 Imo governorship gradually gather momentum, the senatorial candidate of the the Accord Party in the 2023 general elections, Chief Mike Nwachukwu has reiterated the need for leaders of Okigwe and Owerri zones to come together with a view to sorting out their differences and agreeing on which zone between the two, should produce Governor Hope Uzodinma’s successor.

In a statement made available to newsmen recently, Chief Nwachukwu, maintained that the only option open to Owerri and Okigwe zones over who  should produce the next Imo governor after Uzodinma in 2027, would be for both zones to come together, work together. reason out  their differences as well as respect each other’s arguments.

Chief Nwachukwu further warned against a repeat of what he called the mistake of 2011, adding that but for the consequences of the massive support Rochas Okorocha received from Owerri Zone then, “the political history and narrative of of Imo politics may have taken a new turn.”

Nwachukwu reiterated his earlier position through a letter to the Imo State Council of Elders, on the imperative for both Okigwe and Owerri zones to come together in a serious dialogue in order to resolve their differences,  rub minds and arrive at a conclusion over which zone between the two that should take the first shot.

He renewed the call for the convocation of a “Bi-Partisan 30 Wise Men

and Women” to x-ray the issues and come up with a position.

He equally harped on the imperative for both Okigwe and Owerri leaders to involve

the leadership of Orlu Zone in the process.

Meanwhile Chief Nwachukwu has alerted Okigwe and Owerri zones on the possibility of Orlu Zone politicians contesting Imo governorship election in 2027.

“Anybody who thinks that this version of onye Orluzone is not present in our body politic today should ask Oyii Bathos Nwadike, who has fired the first salvo of Isu Clan’s resurgimento expressed in their claim to the governorship seat. Better still, you may ask the duo of Dist. Senator Osita Izunaso and Chief Uche Nwosu (H.E. Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law who mounted a very robust campaign for the 2019 governorship election as AA candidate but lost narrowly to Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, whose victory was later to be overturned by the Supreme Court in favour of our present Governor, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodinma). Both Dist. Senator Osita Izunaso and Chief Uche Nwosu are said to be warming up for the governorship contest in addition to a few other fellows with “deep pockets” from the Zone.

“Given that “today” there is somewhat of an “Elite Consensus” in Orlu given that most of  the key political actors / actresses are in one “basket” and given their renewed “audacious” disposition, they may well present one key aspirant to avoid the mistake of multiple candidates  in 2007, hoping that Owerri & Okigwe Zones would never come together,” Nwachukwu submitted.
