The National President of Association of Igbo Town Unions, ASITU Chief Emeka Diwe, has described as a welcome development the recent agreement by South East Governors to approach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB.
The revered Igbo leader said that though the Governors’ decision to join the struggle is coming so late, he noted that it will however enhanced the long battle for his release by various groups, organizations and well meaning individuals, both in and outside Nigeria.
Chief Diwe observed that if the South East Governors had joined ASITU earlier enough to campaign and lobby for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the story would have been different today.
He however expressed appreciation on their recent lofty decision, stating that their decision is still apt since Nnamdi Kanu is still being incarcerated.
The President of the Igbo group hailed all the members of the Federal House of Representatives and Senate who have taken similar stride in the past.
He explained that his group has churned out several Press Releases, held so many Press conferences and strong negotiation with the government aimed at securing the unconditional freedom of Mazi Kanu; which is yet to yield result.
He called on President Tinubu to show that he is a democrat by releasing Nnamdi Kalu, who was long released by court of competent jurisdiction, but was held back by former President Mohammed Buhari’s administration.
He assured of the continued determination of ASITU to ensure that marginalization, victimization, nepotism and all forms of man made subjugation, particularly against the Igbos, are reduced to the minimum.
