The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE Yenagoa Branch has inaugurated Engr. Boyibim Jonah Edoghotu as it’s 12th Chairman in Bayelsa state.
The inauguration ceremony of the 12th Chairman alongside the new executive took place at the Harold Dappa Briye International Conference Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Those inaugurated as part of the 12th executive committee members include: Engr. Adou Doubra David, Vice Chairman, Engr.(Mrs) Deborah Ebimrkumo, Secretary, Engr. (Mrs.) Diepreye Omubo, Assistant Secretary; Engr. (Mrs) Idubamo Rebecca Treasurer, Engr. Dr. Ebiyeritei Wisdom, Financial Secretary, Engr. Abhou Adus, Technical Secretary, Engr. Dr.Happiness Mac-Eteli, Assistant Tech.Secretary, Engr. James Sokari, Ex-officio 1 and Engr. Eluanatein Jokori, Ex-officio 11.
Delivering his inaugural speech, the 12th Chairman of NSE, Engr.Edoghotu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, stating that he would work tirelessly to confront the challenges facing members and the Branch.
Edoghotu said with the support of members, well meaning individuals, corporate bodies and organizations the executive committee would ensure it realize the mission of a rebirth of NSE Yenagoa Branch and take engineering in the state to a new level.
He noted that in line with the current President, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala new agenda the new executive committee will collaborate with the national body in realizing the five strategic pillars and 34 strategic elements by enhancing membership development;, actively engage intergovernmental bodies, industries and the academiia to promote partnership driving progress as well ss innovstion and knowledge exchange.
He further noted that he will continuously strive to make community impact by underscoring the relevance of engineering expertise in addressing current societal challenges and build the capacity of members for professional enhancement and development through conferences, seminars, technical talks and visits, workshops, webinars especially the young engineers.
The NSE Yenagoa Branch Chairman said the welfare of members will be accorded priority by discussing the issues affecting members with the relevant authorities with a view to finding lasting solution in addition to continuously advocate for the growth of the society and Branch by making sure that all divisions are vibrant with vibrant programmes to further strength the practice of the profession.
Edoghotu while pledging to continue with the projects initiated by his predecessor especially the NSE Yenagoa and Resource Center appealed the Governor Douye Diri, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, Engr.Margaret Oguntala, the Royal Father of the Day, elders, fellows and members of the society as well as well meaning individuals and corporate bodies to comr to the aid of the society by donating generously to the course.
In her inaugural lecture titled: ” The Role of Engineering in Advancing Society’s Proficiency on Sustainable Development”, Engr. Dr. Eruni Uku-Philip, lecturer Federal University Otuoke said engineers are at the fore front of driving sustainable development through the design of innovative solution that minimize environmental impact, minimize resource usage and promote societal equity.
Uku-Philip highlighted other areas engineers are advancing society’s proficiency and sustainable development to include waste management and recycling, efficient transportation, renewable energy technologies, sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels and climate change.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the outgoing NSE Yenagoa Branch, Engr. James Sokari thanked members for the support accorded the out going executive committee of NSE Yenagoa Branch and pleaded for greater support to the incoming executive committee.
Sokari said the construction of the NSE Yenagoa Resource Center he started with boundaries of the land well demarcated with blocks work contributions from his executive, however expressed the firm believe that with members’ support to the new executive committee the resource center can be build in phases as planned by the Building Committee.
High point of the inauguration ceremony was the presentation of award of excellence to ESV. Moses Teibowei, Barr. Johnson Dangana, Engr. James Sokari, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, President of NSE and Engr. Dr. Eruni Uku for their invaluable contribution to the growth and development of NSE Yenagoa Branch
