The 10th Imo House of Assembly,IMHA has stated that within one year of its legislative activities, it has recorded significant achievements by adopting sixty four (64) motions and passing eight(8) bills to its credit and still counting, as the leadership of the House vowed to continue on maintaining peaceful co-existence with the executive arm of government.
The Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon. Chike Olemgbe made the disclosure while welcoming Governor Hope Uzodinma to the Assembly complex for the celebration of its one year anniversary in office.
The speaker said Imo Assembly remained thankful to Governor Uzodinma for beaquething to them first class parliamentary complex equipped with modern facilities to make their work easy .
He said that the assembly was able to make the achievements recorded so far because of the synergy among members, and symbolic relationship that exists between the legislative and executive arms, promising that it would continue inorder to achieve a progressive state for the benefit of all.
Enumerating on the achievements recorded so far, Rt Hon.Olemgbe remarked that a total of 18 Bills was presented before the House and that out of the 18 Bills,12 have been passed into law three were pending and three at Committee stage.He further explained that out of 66 motions presented before it,64 scaled through, while two was unable to see the light of the day.
He commended his fellow colleagues for their high sense of maturity despite legislative misunderstanding which he said, is part of parliamentary politics.
The added that inspite of such developments, they still come to one page.
Addressing the Assembly, the Governor Uzodinma said that his administration would ensure there is rule of law by upholding the independence of the three arms of government.
He reaffirmed his administration commitment to separation of powers, respect for the judiciary and the legislative arms.
Uzodinma while congratulating the Lawmakers on their one year anniversary celebration, commended the Assembly for the warm welcome accorded him and promised that there would be more synergy between the legislative and executive for the betterment of the state.
“Let me assure you that I will strive to continue to provide enabling environment for you to execute your legislative duties and support your training programmes. I will always have your backing as we collectively render selfless services to our people,” Governor Uzodinma stated.
He further stated that his physical presence at the assembly complex was the demonstration of deep respect he has for the legislative arm as he reiterated that his administration will continue to work closely with the lawmakers for effective services to Ndimo.
In a closing remark, the deputy speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu assured that the House will continue to carry out its legislative and oversight functions effectively.
Hon Iwuanyanwu assured that the Imo Assembly would continue to make laws that will advance the state inline with its rules especially, in dealing with the executive arm.
The deputy speaker assured the governor of the support of the lawmakers in his quest to deliver on the 3R mantra.
In a similar vein, member representing Onuimo State Constituency, Hon.James Uba Esile has attributed the achievements of the 10th House to harmonious relationship that exists among members irrespective of political affiliation, assuring that Ndimo would continue to benefit from more legislative outputs from the legislature.
He commended the Governor for the thorough renovation of the Assembly complex and his non interference in matters concerning the legislative arm.
The governor was accompanied to the event with some government officials and other dignitaries among them included the former governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Chief Tony Chukwu; Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Barr.Enyinnaya Onuegbu, and the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Emeka Mandela Ukaegbu and others
