Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma has renamed the State Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to be known and called Ministry of Niger Delta and Intelligence.
Governor Uzodinma made the announcement in the Ndubuisi Exco Chambers, Government House, Owerri while inaugurating into office five new commissioners which include Prince Henry Uzo Okafor.
Okafor was nominated among others who were recently confirmed by the state House of Assembly.
The Governor explained that the ‘intelligence’ added to Niger Delta Ministry will strengthen the security measures put in place by the present administration, to further maintain the already existing
peace in the area.
He charged the new commissioners to discharge their duties and services to the people of the State devoid of corruption and non-productivity.
He also harped on his desire to grow the economy of the state; to alleviate the economic hardship and suffering of the people in the state.
In his words , “become good Ambassadors of my Administration by supporting in the delivery of the dividend of Democracy to the people”, he said.
Addressing the crowd who gathered from Imo Niger Delta communities to celebrate with him on his second appointment and staff, management of the Ministry , the Commissioner, expressed gratitude to God and thanked the Governor.
He also recalled worthy efforts made during his first term by staff of the ministry, adding that such Intelligence is a welcome development now, that will enable the new ministry work in collaboration with security agencies in the state.
The efficient and effective security information flow, he maintained will better the lot of the people in the oil producing area of the state.
He reiterated that government brought him back to unite people of the area and ensure that no communities in Imo oil producing area is intimidated by oil companies operating in the area.
“I run open door policy. I am here for everybody. Report to me matters affecting the peace of the
people of Imo as a whole and Niger Delta communities, I will do my best”.
