Imo PDP Presidential Campaign: Hon Greg Egu debunks alleged diversion of Election Fund

Ex Federal Lawmaker and Director General, of President Atiku/Okowa Campaign Organisation in Imo state during the 2023 general election, Rt Hon Greg Egu on Thursday debunked claims alleging that the funds voted for the PDP Presidential electioneering campaigns in which it was alleged to be in his custody was diverted.

Egu, while deflating the allegation as tissues of lies, unfounded, baseless and figment of imagination of the peddlers, insisted that no amount of blackmail and mischief targeted at him would distract him or tarnish the good work relationship he enjoys with the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the last general election, H.E, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

According to him, “My attention has been drawn to the report on Darling FM, Owerri, on Thursday, 20th, June, 2024, during a live radio program where one Greg Nwadike and Collins Opuruozor, who appeared as guests in their bid to massage their ego and carryout hatchet job for their pay master alleged that I diverted funds for the Imo PDP Presidential electioneering campaign. For the purposes of clarity, I, Rt Hon Greg Egu served as the Director General of Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation for Imo state and the Chairman of the Presidential Campaign in Imo is Hon Emeka Ihedioha.

The funds approved for supervision by the Director General was the sum of Ninety million (90 million) naira which was meant for organising the presidential rally in Owerri. For the case of Presidential Election funds, Hon Emeka Ihedioha and Sen Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, jointly received the sum of 1.3 million dollars in Delta State, I was not part of the delegation to Delta State.  Ihedioha as the Chairman of Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign in Imo state took the 1.3 million dollars to his private residence located at Civic Centre, Owerri where he was to address leaders of the party and disburse the money, but his aides became aggressive and insulting resulting to the exit of myself and some other leaders of the party who could not tolerate excesses of Ihedioha’s aides. Ihedioha is in a better position to address the public as regards what transpired and how he managed the campaign funds. I don’t want to go into how Ihedioha directed Imo PDP candidates who participated the 2023 general election to pay in huge sum of money to prosecute their election, Egu said.

” I want to use this opportunity to call the attention of the media, and especially, Darling FM, Owerri to abide by the ethics of their profession and not allow itself to be used to tarnish the image of reputable citizens of the country”, he noted.
