Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom Long Overdue, Tell Attorney -General To Free Him – Edwin Clark Says To Tinubu

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, Edwin Clark, the convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has asked President Bola Tinubu to instruct the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to drop all the charges against Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated head of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a letter addressed to Tinubu on Sunday, June 16, Clark articulated that presidential prerogatives ought to be exercised to free the IPOB leader.

In the letter, Clark said that although he has never endorsed the activities of IPOB under Nnamdi Kanu’s leadership, it is clear that Nigeria, a fragmented nation, has witnessed many factions protest against the poor situation of the country.

He attributed these protests to the constitution which he described as a “military constitution imposed on Nigerians by the military.”

Clark continued by decrying the sorry state of democracy, health and educational institutions in the country.

He said that the so-called democracy in Nigeria only favours few person while youths are left jobless.

Clark added that the consequences of these discrepancies will be very unpleasant if allowed to continue.

He went on by saying that the unity of Nigeria can only be preserved if every segment of the nation is accorded equitable treatment in all dimensions.

Clark asserted that Kanu’s liberation would terminate the Monday sit-at-home directive in the South

-East and restore peace across the nation.

Clark emphasized on the need to reintegrate Igbo people into Nigeria, so that “their region will be equal with other regions in all ramifications, meaning that they should be fully and unconditionally united or be admitted into the union

of Nigeria as it was before the civil war.”

He added that the liberation of Nnamdi Kanu on political grounds by Tinubu is long overdue.

In conclusion, Clark said, “Mr. President should direct the attorney general to enter a nolle prosequi to free Nnamdi Kanu, who has shown his intention to work with the federal government, in order to bring peace and stability in the south-eas

t and to Nigerians as a whole, as it has been recently done in similar cases of treasonable felony, as in the case of Miyetti Allah president Abdullahi Bello Bodejo of Nasarawa state.”
