LG Crisis Worsens in Rivers as Angry Youths Take Over Secretariats

A new vista of violence has erupted in Rivers state Monday morning as angry youths have taken over some local government offices in the state.

As at the time of filing this report, two chairmen of councils have fled their homes to avert the wrath of youths who have invaded the offices.

The tenure of the local government chairmen expires on Tuesday but they have vowed not to vacate their offices.

Videos of the takeover of the council areas seen by NPO Reports correspondents showed the youths chanting songs that showed they meant business with anyone that prevented them from their actions.

One of the youths from the area who is sharing updates from the scenes Chris with the X handle @Topboychriss said some security operatives arrived at the Asari Toru Local Government secretariat just in time to prevent any damage to government properties.

“Asari Toru Local Government Chairman flees for safety as people of Asari Toru take over their council secretariat. We await the official directive of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara,” he said

In another post by him, he reported that Degema Local government secretariat has been shut down as well.

The youths are daring any council boss whose tenure expires on Tuesday to come to office.

The development furthers shows an escalation of the Wike-Fubara face off.
