The much hyped Okigwe Elders Forum meeting billed for yesterday (Sunday), June I6 and held at Eze Ohanwe’s Palace, Isiala Mbano LGA, Imo State has come and gone.
The meeting which was specifically Convened for Okigwe Zone to decide on the 2027 Imo Governorship Slot Suffered a big lapse as most of the invited Big Wigs shunned the event.
Among the absentees were the former Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Maurice Iwu, all members of Imo House of Assembly from Okigwe Zone, the Secretary to Imo State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu, all Government Officials,Rt Hon Chike Olembe, Speaker Imo House Assembly, Anglican Bishop,Rt.Rev David Onuoha, Chairman of Imo state Christian Association of Nigeria,CAN,Rev Eches Divine Eches.
Others who absented include; Chief Chris Okewulonu,Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu, Chief Chikwem Onuoha, Chiefs Sankod Okoro, Emma Okewulonu, Chief Alex Mbakwe,Dr Fabian Ihekweme, Chief George Egu and others.
Sources said that those who boycotted the event, especially Government Officials,did so because they did not want to confront the state Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma who has decided to zone the Governorship in fulfilment of his Commitment to Imo Charter of Equity which he promised Imo people in 2027.
A source from the failed meeting said that a prominent billionaire from Isiala Mbano who is sponsoring an Aspirant was seen calling Invited guests , begging them to attend the meeting.
It was learnt that the Billionaire has sworn that no other candidate will emerge from Okigwe zone, except with his endorsement, assuming Okigwe zone will ignore the Governor’s resolve to instill a peaceful hand over of power in Imo among the three Political zones.
