Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, and his wife, Chioma, have dispatched a delegation to the Ghanaian government to bring back teenage girls who were forcibly trafficked to the neighbouring country.
The move followed a recent viral video, which showed the girls.
The delegation had a mandate to explore all diplomatic avenues to bring back the girls.
It was led by Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu. The Commissioner for Social Welfare, Mrs Nkechi Ugwu, was also on the team.
Receiving the delegation in Accra, Ghana, yesterday, the monarch of the Igbo community, Ezeigbo Chukwudi Ihenetu, commended the state governor for his “timely and fatherly” intervention towards rescuing the girls, who are mostly from Orlu.
He expressed optimism that the victims would be returned to Imo State.
Leader of the delegation, Iwuanyanwu, said they were sent with a specific mandate to return to Imo with the girls. She promised to achieve this.
Ugwu also affirmed that the delegation would achieve its mission of bringing them back and re-uniting them with their parents. She added that the victims would have a new life and skills acquisition training upon their return.
