Democracy Day: Anyanwu Felicitates Nigerians, Describes System As A Journey, Not A  Destination.

..Says: Corruption, primitive wealth acquisition, bane of development

Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu  has congratulated Nigerians on this year’s Democracy day, urging the citizens to be more determined in ensuring that the system works in the country.Sen.Anyanwu, who was the PDP candidate in the November 11, 2023 Governorship election in Imo state opined that despite its imperfection; democracy remains the best option for Nigeria  as a country. The former  Senator hopes that through the determination of the citizens and their active participation in the democratic process, Nigerians can achieve a truly great country of their collective dream.

In his words , “our only major setback in Nigeria is corruption and insatiable quest for material things and primitive acquisition of wealth, if our leaders can develop a spirit of development and genuine service to their fatherland, I am confidence that this country will be the best among other nations. “God has blessed our land with bountiful natural resources, but it becomes more worrisome when  individuals convert virtually what should be enough for one  million Nigerians to personal use. This is the height of wickedness and dis-service to the nation”,he noted.

The PDP National Secretary stated this in his goodwill message to commemorate this year’s June 12, 2024 Democracy Day, further urged Nigerians not to relent in their search for lasting peace as a necessary condition for progress and prosperity. He therefore applauded the heroic deeds of  nation’s past heroes and patriots who worked assiduously to actualise democratic rule in the country.

The PDP scribe  hailed  feats achieved in this guise especially by leaders like:Nnamdi Azikiwe, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Chief Margaret Ekpo, Anthony Enahoro, and the symbol of the June 12 struggle, the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawole,MKO. Abiola amongst others, saying, only a truly great, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria could be a befitting compensation for their sacrifices.Stressing that democracy is a journey and not a destination, Anyanwu suggests that a lot more sacrifices are  needed from the citizens to ensure the country gets the best out of its democratic rule.He urged the youths to show more interest in the economic and political development of the country, adding that they have the required education, exposure, and numerical strength to make positive impact on both the economy and governance.

“We may not have reached the promised land, but we have left Egypt. We may not have attained the best, but we surely have made some progress as a nation. What Nigerians need is to make the right choice as soon as possible. With more determination and active participation of the citizens in the democratic process, we would reach the promised land.

The PDP scribe also  congratulated Nigeria citizens on the 2024 Democracy day, maintaining  that the only befitting compensation for the contributions and sacrifices of the heroes/patriots past ,dead and living, is a truly great, peaceful, united, egalitarian and prosperous Nigeria.
