Imo Legislators Call On Governor To Rehabilitate Nkwerre General Hospital

The Imo State House of Assembly, IMHA  has drawn the attention of the State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma to the sorry state of the Nkwerre General Hospital, urging him to come to the rescue of the management.

The call was made following the adoption of a motion moved by the member representing Nkwerre State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu.

Hon OJukwu had narrated to the  Assembly  the long neglect of the health care establishment.

The Lawmaker informed that Nkwere was one of the ancient planned cities in the early seventies and because of its strategic position it attracts many visitors and currently has a population of over 111,600 people hence the need for the urgent rehabilitation of the hospital which has been neglected many years ago after  it was razed by fire outbreak.

Ojukwu regretted that a hospital that was built through community efforts can no longer be maintained by government recalling that during the administration of then Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha, the facility was  turned  to  a permanent  Camp  for the National Youth Service Corps,NYSC and buy so doing  abandoned the primary purpose why it was established.

The Nkwere Lawmaker lamented that many lives have been lost because people no longer have easy access to medical attention and that common people don’t have the financial where withal to access medical facilities at the urban areas.

He prayed that the House should urge the Governor  to remodel and rehabilitate the Health Centre so that it can serve it purposes of taking care of the sick people  living in the rural areas.

The House, after much deliberations resolved to urge the Governor to direct the  Ministries  of Works, Health and House and Urban development to visit the establishment with the purpose of remodeling and rehabilitating of the health centre with  modern day medical facilities.
