The legal tussle between Major General Lincoln Keonyemere Jack Ogunewe (Rtd) and Comrade Ifeanyi Okponwa Eze, has been adjourned to June 6, 2024.
Ogunewe, the candidate of Action Alliances, AA, in the 2023 governorship election in Imo State, had after the poll, dragged Okponwa-Eze, the state party chairman, to a magistrate court over alleged defamation through a petition to the Inspector-General of Police.
Hearing on the suit was to continue on May 9, 2024, but owing to the absence of the prosecution counsel in court, the matter was adjourned to June 6.
The prosecutor who is the OC Legal Department in the Imo State Police Command, however, communicated his absence to the court via a letter, which was also served the defense counsel, Dr. Ifeoma Ekeh.
It would be recalled that an elder statesman and President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu had recently, indicated interest to wade into the face-off between the two politicians with a view to negotiated out of court settlement.
