The Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri,Imo state has on Tuesday, April 23, held her 46th matriculation ceremony in grand style with the Acting Rector of the institution, Dr. Uzoma Friday Ibeaja, passionately charging the new students to study hard, while desisting from any form of illicit behaviour in order to graduate successfully, in character and learning.
The Rector, while giving the advise to the students at the Polytechnic Mini Stadium where the event was held sternly warned them to discard cultism, indecent dressing, cohabitation, examination malpractice among others which would hamper their graduating in flying colours and by so doing make their parents, guardians and the institution proud.
According to the Rector, “your parents and guardians sent you here to graduate successfully as professionals in your various disciplines. To achieve that within minimum time span should be your primary aim and objective. Every other pursuit is secondary. As fresh students,you must start from your very first lectures to show serious commitment to your studies. Do all assignments and tests. Don’t miss any class and if you do, copy notes, revise the topics and avoid tutorials by students who may damage what your lecturers have taught you. Use the library judiciously and you will achieve success in your examinations”.
Urging the new students to always remain grateful to their sponsors, loyal to the Polytechnic Authority, Ibeaja stressed that the institution is always geared towards instill discipline, honesty, academic excellence and good behavior in the students.
In their oath, the matriculants, through Onwuchekwa Promise Chukwuemeka, vowed to always obey rules and regulations of the school, regard school authority, defend the school, be honest to the ideals of the polytechnic, respect human dignity of all employees and to cooperate positively with fellow students, not to indulge in any anti social activities, work hard to graduate in learning and character, as to be able to represent the society well in the future.
The highlight of the Matriculation Ceremony was the Award of Scholarships to Ten Students who first registered in the Polytechnic, Female Students who are studying in male dominated departments such as Mechanical Engineering, Mineral Soil Engineering, Agric Engineering, Architecture, Building Technology, Electric and Electronic Engineering, among other disciplines and a physically challenged student who were present on the ceremony.
