Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo State Council, have commended the Commissioner of Police in the state, Danjuma Aboki, for his timely intervention in the Union’s matter which led to the detention and recovery of property of the union, forcefully carted away by one Ifeanyi Nwanguma of StarPost Express Newspaper.
Imo NUJ also flayed the activities of the Divisional Police of Officer, DPO, New Owerri Division, for what it called the seeming unprofessional manner he handled the matter before it was reported to the Commissioner of Police
It will be recalled that Imo NUJ had in a petition addressed to the CP, alerted the police of acts of alleged “forceful entry, stealing and malicious damage of its property at the union’s Owerri-PortHarcourt Road secretariat(Press Centre) ,last Friday.
Meanwhile, the Imo Police Command may arraign Nwanguma in court after he was detained and later released on bail on Monday, March 18.
Nwanguma had ,on Friday last invaded the premises of the Union and break into the chairman’s office and removed Fridges, Air-condition,Laptops,Counters Scanners, etc.
He was there with a big Truck and used thugs to break into the three offices.
Occupants in the premises raised an alarm, so some Journalists, Williams Odunze,Val Nduka and Reginald OLoko, worthy comrades, confronted him and dragged him to Police station.
