A former Information commisioner in Imo State, Prof. Orikeze Vitalis Ajumbe says Owerri Zone must reconcile with Okigwe Zone to get the needed support to win the 2027 governorship poll in the state.
In a recently publicized statement, Prof. Ajumbe, who was also a former state chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Imo State, hinted that since power is taken and not given, Owerri Zone leaders should not go to sleep for the simple reason that the incumbent Governor,Sen. Hope Uzodinma has assured of his willingness to hand over to an Owerri man in 2027.
The Ikeduru-born politician pointed at the lopsided structure in the delineation of senatorial zones in imo State; a situation he said, naturally gives Orlu Zone with 12 local government areas, an edge over Owerri and Okigwe zones with nine and six LGAs respectively.
Ajumbe urged Owerri Zone leaders to plead with their counterparts from Okigwe to put the 2011 scenario behind, and support Owerri Zone ahead of 2027. He said Okigwe Zone has always blamed Owerri for the inability of their son, Chief Ikedi Ohakim to complete his second term as governor.
He therefore commended Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho for initiating moves to bring leaders of Owerri and Okigwe zones together ahead of the next Imo state governorship poll in 2027.
