2027 Charter of Equity: Owerri Zone Must Tango With Okigwe To Win Governorship -Nwachukwu …Calls for 30-member summit

A former candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for Imo East senatorial district, Chief Mike Nwachukwu(Mpidike) has advocated for a political synergy between Owerri and Okigwe zones in order to actualise the dream of producing the next Imo governor come 2027.
Chief Nwachukwu stated this recently, via his detailed statement on the Imo Charter of Equity, which was made available to newsmen and so many Media platforms.
Going down memory lane,he analysed the original of Charter of Equity since 1999, and its implementation, Chief Nwachukwu noted that Owerri Zone remains the most marginalised compared to the other two zones of Orlu and Okigwe.
He added that Orlu has dominated the governorship of Imo for over 20 years, through the trio of ex-governors Achike Udenwa and Rochas Okorocha, including the present serving governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma. He said Okigwe Zone has held the position for about nine years, leaving Owerri Zone with barely two and a half years.
Mpidike also noted that the emergence of Chief Rochas Anayo Okorocha as governor in 2011, dealt a moral blow on the original Charter of Equity agreed upon by leaders of the three political zones of the state.
He further opined that but for the groundswell of opposition that saw the exit of then Governor Ikedi Ohakim in 2011, all the zones would have fully taken their turn to pave way for another round of rotation of the office of governor.
Nwachukwu iterated that it would only take collaboration and bridge-building between the duo of Okigwe and Owerri zones ahead of 2027, to shift power in the state.
He equally made it clear that no one zone between Okigwe and Owerri can go it alone considering the 12 LGAs advantage held by Orlu Zone, presently.
The Egbelu Obube Owerri North high Chief reminded that at the inception of the original Imo Charter of Equity which he tagged “Imo Charter of Equity 1.0,” Late Chief Humphrey Anumudu from Owerri Zone was convinced to step down for Achike Udenwa from Orlu Zone in the spirit of rotation of the office of Imo governorship.
He therefore, made a strong case for a convocation of summit of Okigwe and Orlu leaders comprising what he described as “30 wise men and women”, to be selected from the Local Governments and Federal constituencies of the two zones, for a jaw-jaw on their chances in the next Imo gubernatorial election in 2027.
