The traditional ruler of Akwakuma Autonomous Community in Owerri North LGA, Imo State, HRH,Eze David Onuegwunwoke,Eze Udo 111 has said that the strategic location of his community within the Owerri state capital has placed them in advantaged position to benefit immensely from the massive infrastructural development strides of the present administration in the state led by Gov Hope Uzodinma.
This, he said has a multiplier effect and accelerated the development of his community.
According to the Royal Prince turned King cum scion of the famous Eze Onu Egwunwoke Dynasty/ former Chairman of Imo Council of Traditional Rulers, the impact of the Infrastructural development initiatives of the Governor has impacted positively on his community.
He pointed especially the road infrastructure and various erosion control projects which have made movement of goods and services easier.
The monarch added that the erosion control projects sited within his community have reasonably reduced or even stopped the perennial erosion menace that ravages the Area during raining seasons.
Eze Onuegwunwoke made the clarification last week while fielding questions from newsmen in his Palace at Akwakuma, Owerri North LGA.
He posited that his Community is peaceful and rapidly developing because of unity of purpose of his people who are supporting his reign and the good working relationship existing between his Kingdom and the government at various levels.
Speaking further, the youthful and ebullient monarch disclosed that he doesn’t face any serious challenge as has always been the experience of most traditional rulers in many other Communities .
He attributed it to his vast years of experience and tutelage as a Prince born and brought up in the palace of a renowned monarch of his late father’s standing.He also acknowledged that he enjoys a peaceful reign and overwhelming support of his subjects because he didn’t struggle for the throne with anyone, rather he was the choice of his people who in their wisdom deemed him worthy to be their King and enabled him to ascend the throne of his fore fathers.
The Akwakuma Royal father while reeling out the tradition of how their kings are crowned at Orie Uruatta at Owala, their ancestral home and finally at Orie Akwakuma market, further revealed that his late father who was the Eze Udo 1,His Royal Majesty Eze Onu Egwunwoke was a great King who ruled over a very large Kingdom known as Ihiteoha comprising present day autonomous Communities like; Akwakuma, Amakohia,Owaelu,Owala and that his present kingdom which is only Akwakuma makes things easier and simple for him to handle.
He said that his journey to the throne started on May 9, 2020 when the Oha Uratta crowned him at Orie Uruatta in Owala
The climax was attained on August 2, 2022 when his reign was heralded with his successful coronation by the Oha Akwakuma at their sacred Orie Akwakuma market.He recalled with nostalgia the happiness that enveloped his community on that memorable day which keeps reminding him of his people’s love and support.
On human capital development and security situation of his Kingdom,Eze Onuegwunwoke stated that his Community is partnering the government.
According to him,the National Directorate of Employment is to train and capture their youths in various trades and skills.He revealed that so many of their youths have been captured and that after the skill training exercise, the government Agency provides empowerment for their smooth takeoff in various skills.
He added that his Community is also collaborating with the government in securing lives and property in his Kingdom which informed the setting up of Akwakuma Vigilante.
