The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has continued to gain more grounds in Imo as a new support group, Uzoagba Youth Alliance, UYA, was inaugurated on Saturday last week.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at his Uzoagba-Ikeduru country home, the sponsor, Dr Obinna Obi-Njoku Jnr, disclosed that UYA remained a strong support group within APC, adding that his mission was to ensure that the party maintained dominance in Uzoagba Ward with 30 booths or polling units.
Dr Obi-Njoku Jnr who used the occasion to express gratitude to the entire people of Uzoagba Ward for the massive votes they gave Governor Hope Uzodinma during the November 11 Imo governorship election last year, assured that governor was prepared to do even more than he has already done in his first four years in office.
He noted that the governor has started the construction of the Eke Mmegbuoha Uratta -Uzoagba Road up to the Okata Nkwo bridge , and expressed optimism that the governor would extend the road across the river to Uzoagba community.
He equally assured of the loyalty and support of Uzoagba people especially, the youths, for the operational leader of APC, Chief Charles Amadi (Charlvon) and the leadership of the party in Ikeduru Local Government Area.
Speaking further, Obi-Njoku Jnr maintained that the youth alliance would function as a vanguard for galvanising support for APC in the area.
The medical doctor who described Uzoagba Ward as one of the largest political wards in the state, noted that they could offer even more politically if there is unity among party leaders and faithful in the ward.
Also speaking, the Ikeduru LGA party chairman, Hon Remi Onyewuchi, reiterated the appreciation of the support of Uzoagba leaders and youths to Governor Uzodinma and the operational leader of Ikeduru APC, Chief Amadi (Charlvon). He further said the operational leader and Ikeduru APC were happy with the massive support given to the party and Governor Uzodinma during the November 11 Imo gubernatorial poll.
Earlier, some party leaders in the area, including Hon Tony Osuji, Hon Francis Opara and Engr Chuks Ukachukwu Ogbonna
expressed satisfaction at the efforts of Dr Obi-Njoku Jnr in galvanizing the youths of Uzoagba Ward towards achieving resounding victory for the party during the November 11 Imo governorship election.
They made it clear that Obi-Njoku Jnr has demonstrated capacity, sincerity and vision, noting that unlike many other politicians, Obi-Njoku Jnr has remained consistently in touch with the grassroots even when elections were over.
Hon Opara popularly known as Sheriff, said Uzoagba Ward has never been so politically united as it is presently with the leadership of Obi-Njoku Jnr. While Hon Ogbonna described the inauguration of the youth alliance sponsored by Obi-Njoku Jnr, as a clear manifestation of a leader who has the interest of the youths at heart.
The high point of the event was the inauguration and swearing-in of executive and cordinators of UYA presided over by the LGA party chairman, Hon Onyewuchi.
