As a result of the continuous neglect of the Umuapu-Ihie-Obitti access road by the Oil companies operating in their areas, an umbrella body known as Umuapu-Ihie-Obitti Access Road Youth Forum, UIOARYF, has urged all the oil companies plying the above road to urgently fix same before the rains.
The youth group warned the companies to heed to their call and amend the deplorable situation as it affects the said road on or before end of March 2024 or face a 14day protest.
“We’ll not wait patiently again,if by the end of March 2024 Umuapu/Ihie/Obitti access road is not fixed by these Companies. There’ll be 14 days protest in the area which will affect the Oil companies”.
Rising from a general meeting held yesterday, the group’s President,Rev.Angus Eluke Uchenna lamented the bad condition of the road which has gotten worsen following the constant use by these Oil companies’ heavy trucks plying the road on a daily.
The group frowned at the unconcerned attitude of the oil companies over the condition of the road despite the fact that the road serves as a life wire to all their operations.
The President, informed that the deplorable state of the road is negatively affecting the people of the area as it also serves as the route to their farms and commercial activities.
He maintained that if nothing urgent is done on the road before raining season sets in, it will cause more harm to the people mostly the aged ones who apply the road on daily basis.
The group, wondered why those Multi-billion Oil Companies like, Walter Smith,SPDC,Seplat,Sterling global,Agip etc,can not afford to fix the road.
“We the Youth body want to inform the Imo State government that Ohaji is suffering a lot , despite the fact that it provide 70 percentage of the State resources yet we don’t have a good social amenities such as electricity, health centers, even good roads, good schools”, they noted.
“No single NDDC project functioning in Ohaji.
We have therefore, resolved as a youth body that this bad road in Ohaji will not continue .Our 14 days protest will start if the oil companies fail to do the needful in Umuapu-ihie-obitti access Road”.
