The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) Bayelsa State chapter has inaugurated a new executive to pilot its affairs for a period of four years.
The inauguration which preceded the election held at the Assembly complex in Yenagoa was monitored by the national leadership of PASAN represented by the National Legal Adviser, Comrade Lawrence Achuta, the Bayelsa State Chairman of the NLC, Comrade Simon Barnabas and the NLC state Secretary, Comrade John Angesse, the Police and the Department of State Security.
In a keenly contested election, Comrade Ekakara Ebiotu Peres polled 169 votes to defeat his closest rival Comrade Attii Moses Ebigbagha who polled 76 votes.
Announcing the result of the election, the Chairman of ELECO, Comrade Oku Lionel Bestman said Ekakara Peres having satisfied the election guidelines and polled the highest number of votes is returned elected for the position of Chairman.
Others who were declared winners include, Tari Amaseimo, Vice Chairman, Wariebi Appah, General Secretary, Ebhela Esther, Treasurer; David Tomoworio, Publicity Secretary and Omarikene Joyce, Woman Leader and Major Walter as Welfare Secretary.
While the positions that were returned unopposed are: Blessing Igrubia, Assistant Secretary, Doutimi Emmanuel, Internal Auditor, Edoghotu Stephen, Social Secretary, Ugo Imawaigha, Financial Secretary and Oweisana Jennifer, Ex-officer.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated chairman of PASAN, Comrade Peres Ekakara expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the victory and pledged to run an open door administration.
Comrade Ekakara enjoined all hands to be on deck to build the association and called for members to contribute ideas towards growing the body.
He promised to fulfill his campaign manifesto most especially to ensure that he pushed for the revisiting of the Assembly Service Commission Act to create more directorate so that legislative workers can be on Consolidated Salary Structure as applicable in other similar Commissions.
He also pledged to ensure the provision of legislative staff quarters as well as to make sure that a Clinic is situated within the Assembly Complex for easy access to medical treatment.
In his remarks, the Clerk of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Kent Adogu admonished the winners in the election to be magnanimous in victory and the losers not to lose hope for there is always another opportunity for them to contest.
Adogu charged the new inaugurated leadership to be servent leaders instead of being served and urged them carry everybody along.
