The saying that health is wealth manifested in real terms as more than one hundred and eighty people from Egwedu Community in Njaba LGA,Imo State benefited from free eye medical services embarked upon by a Non-profit organization known as Lion Heart Group, recently.
Speaking with Nigeria Newspoint, the Founder of the group, Wisdom Ezeji said that the group was motivated to embark on such activity purely on humanitarian ground.
He pointed out that health is crucial, hence the need to address some health challenges in his community with the view of taking off medical burden from the people, mostly, the aged.
“This medical outreach taking place here today is the reflection of the love l have for my people and also my little contribution to assist them medical wise because of the saying that health is wealth.Many of them,due to financial constraints cannot be able to attend to their health needs but through this medical outreach today, some people mostly, the aged ones can be able to get medical attention”
Mr Ezeji who revealed that the group by January next year will carry out free malaria test,maintained that embarking on such venture does not mean that he was the richest in his community but just a way to say thank you to my people and also to encourage others to follow suit inorder to reduce health challenges in the community mostly among the elderly.
Lending her voice, the principal of Egwedu Comprehensive Secondary School,Nneoma Emelda Nnabuife said that she was happy and full of pride seeing one of her students rendering such humanitarian services to his community and encouraged others to emulate him.
She said ,it means that he has put into use what he has learnt from the school maintaining that every child is useful if given proper care.
The father of the founder, Hon.Damian Ezeji said that his son has never disappointed him and that he will always be proud of him.
He observed that many people with eye problems that cannot get medical attention have today received free medical services courtesy of his son.
Also speaking, one of the beneficiaries who seemed to be the eldest woman among the gathering, Madam Priscilla Nnajiaka expressed joy and offered prayers to the organizer asked God to bless him more abundantly.
She said that through the medical outreach, she was able to get proper attention to her eye problems by getting free drugs and eyeglass.
The event, was well attended by the people of the community mostly the elderly with some medical personnels attending to them.
