Imo Govt. To tackle Pregnant Women, Children Mortality Rate 

…Trains Health Centre OICs on  Health Insurance Implementation

To prevent the constant death of pregnant women during delivery and preservation of new borns, the Imo State Government through the Imo State Health Insurance Agency IMSHIA have organized a two day training for Officers In Charge (OIC) of the primary health centers to endeavour they implement the basic health care programme provision fund in the state.

Speaking at the training held on the 3rd and 4th October 2023 at Foret event center, Owerri, the executive secretary of Imo State Health Insurance Agency Dr. Uchenna Ewelike noted that the training was essential based on the gaps identified in the first quarter of their MIE review, stressing that the training would definitely facilitate life savings skills for pregnant women, children under 5 years and elderlies.

He said that the programme was in line with the Governor Hope Uzodinma insurance policy to ensure that vulnerable population in the communities have access to quality health care services without suffering financial hardship, adding that the policy is being implemented in the 305 INEC Wards in Imo.

Ewelike disclosed that ” because we have secondary facilities where we refer people for surgeries and all forms of medical interventions, we are training 340 health care providers”

“We are training them in live saving skills, which includes maternal health, child health and elderlies, this training will enable them know the level which they can manage and at what point they can refer, they have done very well from our records so far because since April 3rd we have not recorded any maternal or child death, he said”

Earlier, while declaring the event open, the Commissioner for Health Insurance Dr. Barthy Okorochukwu reiterated that the essence of the training was for the Officers In Charge (OICs) to be well guided on  what to do at any given situation as regards different health conditions. of Imo people.

Okorochukwu added that the health care service programme is the brain child of Governor Uzodimma which every citizen of Imo State is expected to take opportunity of and get insured inorder to have full access to quality health care services.

He stated that monitoring and evaluation is an integral part of their programme activities, which also has helped them in observing the gaps, hence the need for the training, stressing that the State government is very committed to bringing quality health care services to the door step of every citizens of the state to tackle the issues of ill health and lack of treatment.
