…As Uzodinma bags Advocate of peaceeace, press freedom award
As a means of appreciating her numerous readers, advertisers, God and the general public, for their immense contributions in sustaining the publications, the publisher, management and staff of the Nigeria Watchman Newsmagazine has advanced plans to roll out the drums in celebration of the publication’s five years of sustainable publications and patronage.
In a press statement signed by Evangelist Samuel Ezeji and Rotarian Everest Ezihe, the publisher and the chairman of the planning committee respectively noted that, despite the excruciating socioeconomic hardship of the nation, the monthly news magazine has stood the test of the times.
The historical event which has been detailed to hold at Rockview Hotel on Saturday 7th October, 2023 by 11am, with a theme in line with the contemporary realities: *Participatory Governance: A Panacea for Good Governance.
The occasion will be driven under the distinguished Chairmanship of Chief Sir Chijioke Tasie, Fpi, the Lord Mayor of Owerre Nkworji Ancient kingdom and to be assisted by an eminent scholar, Dr. Chibuike Nwachukwu of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri.
As an organization committed to information dissemination, the anniversary theme will be scholarly dissected by a well known erudite scholar, Dr. Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, the Group Executive Director of D – Taurus Holdings Limited Lagos.
The event will also be spiced up with the celebration of the publisher’s 23 years as an activist in crusading for the enthronement of godly fear, Peace and Unity in the governance of Nigeria.
Part of the highlights will include, marking the 27th wedding anniversary of the publisher with his dear wife, unveiling of their NGO and soliciting for collaborative partnership in terms of support and encouragement for visionary expansion.
The publisher further disclosed that the management of his organization has equally resolved to use the evergreen occasion to bestowed on some citizens their maiden Good leadership/Humanitarian award. Also to specially honour the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON the prestigious award of an “ADVOCATE OF PEACE AND PRESS FREEDOM”.
They pointed out that Governor Uzodimma meritoriously earned the prestigious award, in view of his prayer point and emphatic declaration that, 2023 will be a year of Peace and Promotion in Imo State, even as he continued to canvass for peace and unity of purpose in the State in every fora.
Above all, the Governor’s Shared Prosperity administrative mantra sponsored over 1,000 Imo State Christian and Muslim pilgrims to the Holy Lands this year, and the Governor just asked them for one thing, they should pray for the restoration and sustenance of peace in the State and Unity of Nigeria.
According to them, ” it’s pertinent to recall that the Governor was the frontline instrument, God used last March as a result of misunderstanding occasioned by February 25th presidential election to restore peace, stability and harmony among the Igbos resident in Lagos, their host communities and the State Government, to us as veritable organization, this was not a mean feat. On the area of Advocate of Press Freedom, the Governor has for long shown reasonable tolerance and support to the media in Imo State. He has also shown forgiveness and absorbed into his government a good number of Journalists who once took the side of opposition and where writing and making provocative statements against the government.These and more are the reasons why we are joyful and celebrating in bestowing on him this prestigious award”.
On the issue of also awarding the Governor as an Advocate of Press Freedom, the release disclosed that Governor Uzodimma has for long shown tolerance and support to the media in Imo State. He has also shown forgiveness and extended hands of fellowship into his government to a good number of Journalists who once took the side of opposition and where critical on the government programmes and policies, the release concluded.
